Lots of Mules for Sale

Postby dirtydan » Thu Feb 09, 2012 9:39 pm

Due to age my friend needs to cut down on some of his stock. He is over 70 years old and has been going strong in the mule business for many of years. He owns the all famous Mammoth Jack Action Jackson. I don't believe any of these mules are Action Jackson babies but breeding to Action can be arranged. He stands at stud at UC Davis in California. You can find all the info needed on UC Davis equine website. You can get chilled semen shipped and I believe they will also live cover. Pat still transports horses for a living and these mules can more than likely be delivered for little or no additional costs.

Mule 1- Gypsy is a 4 to 5 year old grulla molly mule. I personally started this mule for them and know she is started right. She is a loving gentle mule that learns real easy. She knows everything on the ground such as turning on the hindquarters and forequarters, she backs easily, is pretty easy to catch, leads nice, stands tied, round pens, grooms, has been sacked out alot but could use a little more, has been saddled, she is a bit sensitive with the flank cinch but with a couple more saddles will be over it. I rode her a few times in the round pen with no problems. Perfect mule for someone wanting an easy project. This molly is a steal at $1000

Mule 2- Gypsy older molly....kid gentle....about 15HH....sorrel....sweet, kind, trims, does everything right....$2500...about 15 y/o

Mule 3-Jazz...about 7y/o...bay, 14.1HH...Has been rode by Pat and his girlfriend Connie in NM in the mtns. BEFORE he went to Rod Lara for finishing..Rod is an excellent mule trainer...great family mule....anyone with just a few skills can ride...light, light in the mouth...kind $3000

Mule 4-Zeke....sorrel john...15HH...cowboy mule...over 90 days riding...ride him all day, put him up wet, and do the same thing next day....no nonsense mule $1500 Could pack.

Mule 5-Jolene...7 y/o molly...sorrel, big, 15.2 probably.....60-90 days riding...needs to bond with one person to be her best...Connie rode her....nice big saddle mule, but not for a novice. Could also pack. $2000

Mule 6-Gabby....messed up by some OK cowboys who did not know shit! Was then brought to me to work. I was able to handle and pet him but that's it. Very timid and somewhat scared of people. He then went to a guy in AZ who has worked to train him as a pack mule. He was also ridden, but is not safe to ride. Chulio is great with mules, but says Gabby is loco. Just needs experience to be a pack mule. Make offer. This mule can be included as a package deal with any of these mules for free.

If interested contact Pat Downing at 602-717-6577. These are his mules. Pkg deal possible. Tell him you are responding to an ad placed by Daniel Cornelius as I am posting all info for him and he has no idea what BGH is.

Also coming soon will be about 4 or 5 more mules from the outfit I work for. We have lost our pasture lease and will be cutting down on stock as well. Let me know if there is something specific you are looking for and maybe we can pair you up with a good match

Three more mules for sale. These are from the outfitter I work for. I think all these mules are between 10 and 15 years old.

Mule 1- Judy kind of a bay type color molly about 15.0 or 15.1. Judy was always a lead trail mule and was used to lead some packstrings. Pretty much does everything right but twice has left a rider on his ass. We're not sure what happened or why but both times was leading a packstring of meat and antlers. I don't want to discredit the mule but these are the things we are honest about when selling animals. Advanced riders only and no first time mule people please. $500

Mule 2- Casper white john gelding about 15 hands. He's a pretty good riding mule and has lead packstrings as well. I've used this mule packing alot personally and have seen him carry his own elk plenty of times. This year he did throw my hindquarters off and decided to meet me back at the trailer but this is the only time i've seen him act up. Once again just being honest. He was ridden for years by dudes on the trail rides and always did fine. $800

Mule 3- Molly also kind of a bay type mule. Big draft molly about 17 hands. Gentle giant mostly used as a lead mule on trail rides. Good riding mule. I've never seen her pack but I'm sure she would carry at least a single wide trailer. She was used to pack my bosses fat ass around the mountains mostly but don't tell him I said that. She is his baby and he wants $1500 for her.

You can contact me about these mules at 575-937-5103. Please leave message as I am out of service areas frequently. Daniel Cornelius

Update on mules. Casper has gone to Josh Welch in Utah along with Matilda from my other post.
Gypsy-5 year old grulla molly has now been ridden over sixty days and is doing great. Will ride out alone and is very gentle. Price has gone up to $1250
Zeke-price reduced to $1250. Great deal for this mule. Good everyday using mule.
Jolene-price reduced to $1250. Good saddle mule.
Gabby-has still been in training and is making a good pack mule. Still not too hopeful in the saddle department. Price is now $750

Possible package deal on all four of these mules. All mules are located in Benson Arizona

A good rule of thumb while packing any equine is 1/3 of the animals body weight. However, there really isn't a limit to how much a mule can carry. If their legs don't buckle then they can carry it. I've packed an entire elk(four quarters, backstraps and tenderloins, neck, brisket, and flank) plus the antlers on a 650 pound mule countless times. I prefer to split the load between two mules but sometimes during elk season the old packstring gets spread a little thin.

If your interested in having your mule around for years of service, 20% of a mule's body weight is a good limit, this includes pack saddle and gear. Watch those knees in young mules, they mature much slower than a horse. They shouldn't be packing heavy loads in the mountains much before 5 or 6 years old, if you don't want to cause long term damage.
