Re: question about line breeding

One thing that I have alway understood when you breed close is if your foundation stock isn't sound or of good genetic health don't use it. inbreeding will not create deformities it WILL uncover any hidden problems that the dogs may have.
I would have to guess the lab that was doing the inbreeding ...

If you have the money the MB 650 is a great trap. They are expensive though.

Re: Field trials

I was at Ken's house a couple of weeks ago and put a whamy on those greyhounds. All I have to do is sit at the start line with those little treats in my pocket and those speed dogs are going nowhere....:-)

Re: Hounds Locating Cats

One of the best bobcat dogs I ever owned was also better than fair on bear. the one thing I always had to do every year with him is after running bear all summer, I would have to take him to the cat woods by himself for 1 or 2 bobcat races to get all the bear knocked out of his system. Re: Old fashion red dogs for big game

I would suggest a Blakesley's bred pup. Dave Pelzer in St.Cloud MN has the kennel 320-253-9907. He is a top notch guy and breeder.

Re: what type of dog do you need for holes

My best advice is to work towards dogs that don't give the cat time to get to the hole. I know in my career of cat hunting when I had real cat dogs I didn't put them in holes regardless of the country I hunted, they either treed or bayed up. Just my observation.

I've never thought of it in those terms before. I just was never happy with a older dog I've bought from someone else.
