Re: A Legend Passes
Bear hounder... next time I catch up with his son Brad I will ask if he has any records Del kept on the dogs and if it's ok to put them on here. Like any line of dogs I expect there's a lot of different stuff in the wood pile used for all kinds of game if you dig around enough

Bearhounder.... Sugar Creek is a line of blueticks. Al... I know most of the old time hound doggers here would keep dogs leashed while cold trailing and cut loose once jumped to help avoid losing dogs. Del's dogs were mostly bigger , 90lbs plus minus. Would be great to know what actually happened re...

Re: A Legend Passes
Sugar creek blood was his main foundation if I remember correctly. He talks about it in his book. There's obviously more to it than 1 sugar creek dog

Re: Split Race
I follow and agree with ya and believe we are on the same page. Don't jump to conclusions... I'm lazy as all get out and will use the rig & GPS to get on another quicker too, I'm not on foot start to finish as much as I used to be. I think people miss a lot of critical experience by not followin...

Re: Split Race
Dogs will most definitely get thrown off or slick tree if they are not used to you being involved in the hunt... if the only time they see you is at a tree. If they are used to seeing you while trailing they will look to you for support in a tough spot or get their act together since you caught up. ...

Re: Split Race
Lace up your boots, strap on your pack and go with your dogs. If you are relying on your GPS to make finer corrections you are too late and causing confusion. Do not mistake cold nosed for sticky & independent. Sometimes being the pack leader means going with them step for step. They can learn t...

A Legend Passes
Del Cameron passed away a couple days ago at home with family. Since he is a part of our history and I'm sure some on here have crossed paths with him I thought it appropriate to inform the group. One of his grandsons has been joining me the last few years chasing lions & bobcats and clearly has...

Re: Wrong way.
Going off of the scenario from the 1st post...I would guess the critter spooked from the rig approaching and ran. Based on similar scenarios I've seen, dogs really struggle to cold trail something that's jumped making the back track easier to start. Never know for certain but this also explains why ...

Re: webster's new world dictionary
"Luck good!" Now that's funny!!!!! Thought I'd share this, not that it means anything. I actually have a dog from Dewey and a dog that is extremely close to Cobalt's breeding. That's right...a bluetick and a running dog cross living and hunting together. They are so incredibly different in...

Re: been a tough year here
Been good in Region 2. Seem to be good cat populations, seeing lots of family groups and different age/size cats. Finding cats in spots they haven't been years past and still have them in the spots they always seem to be. On average pretty favorable conditions to make marginal dogs look good, helps ...

Re: Bobcat Jump Style
Andy, do you have many cats go to ground? Have a buddy who used to guide deer/antelope out in R7 he had a couple hound guys he worked with say they had lots of cats hole and lost dogs in small holes where they couldn't turn around or whatever the case. My stickiest, track straddling cold trailer run...

Re: Bobcat Jump Style
Duane, the 2 they stretched were longer jumps lots of shuck and jive stuff. 1 ran out of gas and was caught from behind, the other just made a mistake in the brush and hit a dead end. Saw both catches. The big one that tore up the 2 dogs I don't know what happened, when I got there they were backed ...

Re: Bobcat Jump Style
Been interesting following this and the classifieds thread, thanks all for sharing. This is just my interpretation of my experiences the last few years. Have caught 3 bobcats on ground in western MT. 2 the dogs stretched, 1 kicked the snot out of the 2 dogs I had on it and treed when it saw me. The ...
