Re: Surgically AI'ing a Gyp
The good friends who furnished the semen for this cross have asked for one of the females, so it is doubtful that I will have any for sale. I want these females to go to hunters who have purchased males from me as I feel that that cross will be even better than this one. These pups should make ...

Re: PRICING A HOUND ?
Just go hunt with the man and the hound he has for sale!
May take a few days or not? BUT, look at this hunting conditions(compare with your home turf), his style of hunting(rigging, roading, free casting, mule back, etc.), check out sellers hounds and how many does he have to sell, does he train to ...

Re: PRICING A HOUND ?
I could tell stories about guys selling dogs on trial and getting them back messed up. I was one of them once. So it can definitely swing both ways. My dog was a hard tree dog with his belly to the tree style. Buyer told me he wouldnt tree. He had holes like all dogs but treeing was his best ...

Re: PRICING A HOUND ?
Clyde, here on the east coast, I'd say her value would be near zero, @ 10 yrs old how many races does she have left? Maybe 2 seasons, next hard race may do her kidneys in. To you her sentimental value may be high, and she may still help you time to time, but a 10 yr olds value to sell would be ...

Re: PRICING A HOUND ?
Great comments & agree mostly.
Large majority of hounds I sell (maybe 3-5 per year) are hounds that were raised here or from pups that I got from cat hunter friends. Any more they will be either Running Walker or Trigg with maybe small percentage of Treeing Walker or Bluetick in their blood lines ...

Re: Selling dogs
Its simple, if you are buying a dog go to where it is and hunt with it and its owner. If the dog suits you and your style of hunting buy it. If you dont have the time to do that you probably dont have the time to hunt it either. Even then when you get the dog home many dogs take some time to settle ...

Re: Running dogs locating
I have no doubt dog that have been hunted in adverse condition can acclimate very easy but take a great bobcat dog from South Texas that's been on 400 plus cats comes to a dry sub-zero snow area is not gunna put to many cats up right out of the box. Or turn the scenario around and see what happens ...

Re: Running dogs locating
I can see that Mark but i've seen good dogs come out here that hung up on the first windfall or rockpile they came to.
Had a buddy take a good cat dog to Oaklahoma and the heat and humidity sure took the fire out of him .
I and some buddies believe some good dogs will have to get acclimated to some ...

Re: Running dogs locating
Clyde, why do you think hounds have trouble locating in your country? Or did I mis-understand what you said?
Thanks,
Dave
I think it is roughness and type of country I have to hunt? I take them 100+miles West, Northwest, or Southwest and they locate and tree.
Email or call me and I will put ...

Re: Running dogs locating
I would agree there's no perfect dog or perfect pack but sure have seen some good ones in both categories.Sometimes a difference of opinions occurs when we think our way is the right way or the only way. Most people have reasons for doing things the way they do and you're not going to change that ...

Re: Running dogs locating
Clyde, didn't mean anything negative towards your dog's. How many California, Oregon, and Washington guys made it that way to run with you?
10-12 from CA area & none from the Northwest. It's a pretty good distance & I would like to take hounds and go hunt out there. But understand that is not ...

Re: Running dogs locating
I have never seen the perfect dog and never expect to. What pleases one person may not the other. Each to their own. It seem that it boils down to what you like and feel that is important. I hope I never breed or find that perfect dog if I did what would I have to look forward to?? Maybe just ...

Re: Running dogs locating
Clyde, 200-300 yards for a cat that went up seems like the dogs got fooled pretty good. Or are the weaker of the pack at locating. If they were casting for a loss then yeah that's good as long as they open on the pick up. Would love to get down there sometime and run some.
