Hunting in the course of the year

We have a nice discussion at moment, how much do you hunt in the states with your dogs/hounds and how?

In Germany, the hunting year starts in April, So I`ll start here, only mentioning the main things:

April:
-stalking wild boars, that go out to damage the grasslands, working some blood trails ...

Yes. The Hannoverian Hounds are only used to find wounded game. very cold nosed. Mostly they have to follow blood tracks (with more or less - mostly less - blood on it) after 12 to 30 hours. But even 80 hours are known!

thx a lot...these were the infos I expected! The heritage of following the schent of treed game is interesting me. Is this kind of similar to the "high nose" of the bird dogs? Or completly different?

Hello,

might be a stupid question but can anybody explain me the main characteristics of good treeing abilities? Is it the aggressivity in working on game that makes the prey climb up? Is it the stamina in baying until the hunter comes to dispatch?

we have no treeing game here in Germany except ...

welcome from maine, usa. I have 1 English coonhound, 2 plotts, and a beagle. I am new to hunting with big hounds but been beagling for close to 10 yrs. The Plotts ancesters came from your neck of the woods. I don't know much about the Cur but I think they could worfk well on bear since their a good ...
