Re: Anyone in Oregon

I don’t have any experience with that breed, but for some strains of dog five months is too young to expect a lot from the dog. I would be worried if it was a walker. But I think the catahoulas are bred to be more like a working dog that interacts a lot with its handler. I don’t know anyone who uses...

Re: Law school filled with brilliant minds

Who thinks up these things?
I mean that required a lot of thought, rumination and imagination. I hope he is getting paid for it because that took a lot of work.

Re: Dogs climes tree can u stop it

David ,I’ve corrected the wrong dog by mistake a lot of times, young or old I can’t see any negative affect. As long as they associate e training with discipline I see no problem with their game getting desires. As I said, some dogs I wouldn’t worry about. But I have hunted some smart and sensitive...

Re: Dogs climes tree can u stop it

Just a heads up: think about the effect on the other dogs when you are disciplining a dog (ALWAYS). I see this training mistake by people that have had hounds for decades. The other dogs next to him at the tree can hear the tone just as good as the target dog. Some dogs are smart and extremely tone ...

Re: Dogs climes tree can u stop it

If you want to help isolate the climbing behavior from the treeing behavior, tie a long check cord on him and stand back and wait for him to show climbing desire. Then as you shock him and scold him you can also jerk him out.

Re: Dogs climes tree can u stop it

One could say this is the worst fault a dog can have because most other faults don’t kill the dog. Plus the hunter puts his own life in danger at times trying to get the dog down. I still get a lump in my throat remembering one of those times. And it wasn’t my dog, I was trying to save another man’s...

Re: where to start in the mule game

Mike on that topic we recently had a farrier come trim hooves. There is one huge Jenny that is a very high quality animal if you can stand the high altitude. The guy is seventy, looks sixty and been doing it since he was twenty. He said “I am a mule man. Love mules. Know all about mules. And that is...

Re: Favorite Spring Bear Bait

Lawn clippings, no pesticides or herbicides. Fresh or turned to silage in a bucket. And anything else I can get my hands on. Wow I learned something there! That surprised me. Grass clippings. Once years ago there was a recall on peanut butter. I had to take an entire 53’ semi trailer completely fil...

Re: Hello

Hey welcome! I had a wife by the time I got my first hound also. I could say a lot more about that. But instead, will let you enjoy the blissful feeling of young hounds that are going to catch you your first lion this coming season. Those are some really pretty blue dogs. They must be litter mates. ...

Hopefully someone can answer your questions. It might be slow though. The people that are negative on them or on the situation are afraid of sounding too negative to the people that are positive on them. Re: Dog thieves

Boy, you sure can understand why some of those government hunters used to breed/train their dogs for stranger anxiety/shyness. They would hide at the sound of a vehicle unless they recognized the sound of their own truck. No stranger would ever catch them.

Sorry to hear it Pegleg.

Re: Anyone in Oregon

I never hunted that area, and my information is 35 years old. But my guess is the coon have not changed much and there should be plenty in the populated lowland areas. In the forest, they are very sporadic. But sometimes you find one where you would not expect it. Politics have changed some though. ...

Re: Anyone in Oregon

Are you close to the Willamette River? Or where do you live? Coon will sometimes spend the day sleeping deep in the blackberry thickets in river or backwater areas. It is ideal for training because there are usually small trees poking up through the blackberries. If your dog has any hunting drive at...
