Re: please help squeakin fox

Ive always just used my mouth or press my lips against my hand and squeak (suck), once mastered you will find its better than any bought item, as you will never be without it. You can use this for any critter that would eat a bunny/hare/rodent etc Saying that, Ive tried a few shop bought gadgets, mo...

Re: still hunting withe a dog

It might have been me you were talking too? I personally do this exact job using German wirehair, but other common breeds in \Europe are Labrador, Hungarian Visla, or any other sensible dog with good nose. The hpr (hunt/point/retrieve) breeds can be utilised in many ways in the hunting field, and ar...

Re: A glimpse at the past

Sounds like a nice few days out with the hounds, good write up too... and given that every hunt is different, you never stop learning, its one of the things that make following hounds much more than just a kill, in my opinion. Cheers!

Re: Garmin legalization in Canada (members Required)

Wouldn't it be easier to get Garmin to make them with frequencies suitable in other countries? I hunt in Europe and Canada, and its the same in both regarding wrong frequency. Surely they are missing out on thousands of units being sold due to this?

Re: got a ? on catch dogs

Absolutely, go with the staghound, not for nose in particular, but definitely if stamina is something you like in a working dog, greyhounds also have poor feet and coats. the staghound is born and bred to run outdoors, and catch game... is plenty fast enough, and the body and feet are going to hold ...

Re: pointers on fur

Yeah she trees hard, and barks if sighted, Ive found them to be a keen enough dog, they will gladly hunt a track but only a couple of miles they are not hound ranged, they have a medium nose, fast on a hot scent, and silent until sighted. They are tough, but also have sense of self preservation with...

Re: got a ? on catch dogs

Id go with a good purpose bred lurcher, as Steve said a bull x would fit the bill, but you may want to lean further towards the staghound, like 3/4 stag or more, if your running big open land plough or prairie. But for smaller fields you often get closer slips, so a half bred is fine. Heres an old h...

Re: pointers on fur

Hey Dac, My wife took our wirehair (above) out to northern BC where she was working, the place was crawling with bears, didnt take the pointer long to bump into them, she even treed one lol but on the work site bears can be a safety issue as they are there feeding on the berries, and can taken by su...

Re: Cali hogs!

Hey Fitz, good to see your catahoula curs in action, nice sized boar too. Cheers for posting... just shows how tough them hogs are, he was surviving fine without the use of that leg by the looks of him. Must feel nice to have caught up with him again though.
