Re: Anyone get any cats yet???
Been out twice last week on dry ground. Had some cold trailing until sunny side of the hill in the later morning. Still had a blast walking some beautiful country. Need some overcast colder days to seal the deal.

Re: Free casting
Thanks for the pointers. I like free casting and will look for that nasty terrain, but wouldn't pass up a good fresh track. This year was more of a learning year for me, my hunting buddy and my pup. Will have another pup here shortly and can't wait to start working him also. I have caught the bug ...

Re: First aid kit
You're right. I did see that thread awhile ago and forgot it was on here already.
My real question, for those who have unfortunately had a dog injured while hunting, is what first aid items they were glad they had packed with them, or what they wished they had but didn't have when needed.

First aid kit
Just wondering what people keep with them for first aid kits for the dogs when hunting (both in the truck and out in a backpack while in the field)? I'm thinking to start:
In the field:
Prednisone
Antibiotic ointment
Benadryl
Bandage/vet wrap
Staple gun
Truck:
Soap and water
Amoxicillin

Free casting
Any Colorado hunters free cast with success? I am new to this and have tried both driving roads and free casting. I have an older pup trainer and a 1 yr old pup. We drove roads a few times this season without seeing fresh tracks and I free casted 4 times this season. What I am considering for next ...

I have carried a rifle before, but I live in rough country and would like to just have a firearm in a holster. Looking into a 44 mag

What caliber pistol
I have a 45 ACP, but wondered if a 357 mag or 44 mag is needed for hunting mountain lions. We have a few lions that are to close to home. My neighbors called the DOW who trapped and killed a lion after it started killing their livestock.

Re: Dirt question
I have been reading a great book on bare ground hunting. It is called Lion Tales by Jonathon Kibler. It is all about bare ground hunting and has a chapter just going in detail on the variable Mike Leonard just mentioned above.

I wish! To much debt to do that. My dog is supposed to do dry land hunting also and someone has dry land dogs who might come up. Appreciate any help.

Re: Colorado houndsmen
I wish I could hunt any day of the week but I still work Monday through Friday. My property borders into state land and we can walk for miles. There are no roads for access so I thought when I have time off of work and a fresh snow, then I can take the dogs and go for a walk. It might end up being a ...

Colorado houndsmen
I bought my first big game hound (a 5 1/2 yr old kemp bred Walker) and want to go after a large cat that crosses through my property. I was wondering if there are any houndsmen out there in Colorado that would want to go out with a newbie and bring their dogs so we have a big enough pack to hunt ...

Re: How many dogs needed to hunt lions
Thanks for all the pointers. The prior owners of this house said they lost a pet dog to the lion. I think I will try to see if anyone nearby, with some experienced dogs, wants to help a newbee with some pups chase a big tom. It is snowing now and my hunting buddy is coming over tomorrow morning so ...

How many dogs needed to hunt lions
I have a question for any seasoned lion hunters. I am new to lion hunting, but have hunted many other animals over the years. I have a German shorthaired pointer that I hunt birds with, but that is the only thing I have hunted with dogs.
