Looking for grade redbone, or 3. Out of N. Idaho
Moving back to N. Idaho next weekend and I am going to need some red dogs. In no hurry as I won't try to hunt until this winter. Grade only if its a pup, prefer grade on any other. I'd pay decent money for a young, started dog. Willing to travel around the NW. Thank you!

Re: How well would a HAM radio transmit on marine band?
I agree with you on using a 2 meter radio, but I would be the only hound hunter using that radio making communication quite difficult, thats why I want it to be marine band capable. I won't be "hunting" with these other guys but bear and dogs always cross paths and its nice to be able to t...

Coonhound heeler cross for bear?
I have a labxheeler bitch thats a year and a half old and 35lbs. She got ahold of a critter in the back yard and was more gritty than any coonhound I've seen, so that got me thinking. From what I know of heelers they are pretty gritty, and just all around mean, but quick as well. Would that cross ma...

How well would a HAM radio transmit on marine band?
Question for the HAM gurus that aren't opposed to using a marine band radio on land. I know this is illegal, but where I bear hunt in Idaho every hound guy around uses a 25 watt marine band radio. My question is, if a 2m ham radio were modified to transmit on the marine band, how would the transmiss...

Re: Pistol question?
I carry a Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt, its a smaller frame than a 44 mag. and packs just as much punch. The Ruger pistol is strong so hand loads can be loaded very hot and heavy, way more than you will want to shoot. It has the energy not only to penetrate and kill, but stop a charging bear. You like si...

Looking for gritty, bear bred redbone
I am looking for a female redbone pup that has bear lines, or parents that are tight bay dogs. She will be bred to my red stud to make pups for North Idaho bear so they need to be fast as well. Will stud my dog for pick of the litter if you have a female. Thanks for your time.

Looking for redbone bear dogs
I am on the lookout for a female pup to raise and breed to my stud who is a grade redbone. Would like a line or parents that are gritty bay dogs on bear, don't care about a pedigree. Thanks!

Re: New kennel flooring
I used hog fence with a few inches of dirt on top, dirt is cheap and easy to replace. I would think that over time the gravel would get shoveled out with the shit.

Re: Collar repair
Check the spring on the battery cover, might have to stretch it out a little so it makes a good connection with the battery. Or better yet, throw it in the garbage and get a Marshall or Johnson collar.

Re: Astro 220 vs 320
Stick to the 30's, they are a better collar, and should be a little cheaper than the 40's. Not sure why, but the two 40's I sold went for $10-15 more. On the 30's, 50's and newest collars the GPS antenna is on top of the collar, so on the back of the dogs neck pointing to the sky. The 40 is in the g...

Re: Astro 220 vs 320
I got $135 to $150 for my 30's on eBay, they were in good shape with long range antennas and chargers. A 220 should be about the same. I'm in Troy

Re: Getting young dogs to rig
They open with the old dog, a couple times one of the pups opened first last year. I tried taking the old dog just for rigging but he gets pissed when I turn the pups loose, most of my hunting is on a 4wheeler so he is right in my ear as well, so he stays home. Don't really use shock collars, as lit...

Getting young dogs to rig
My 8 year old lead dog got retired this year for health reasons. That leaves me with two dogs that are just under two years. They hunted last Spring season, caught 9 and were on quite a few more races with the older dog. This year they have had 2 good bear races, one off a bait and one from a campgr...

Re: Astro 220 vs 320
I would go Astro 220 with DC30 collars, and get the long range VHF antennas for the 30's. The magnetic mount antenna or the 49" whip work good for the 220 (also work with 320). Only problems with the 220 are that the high power VHF radios (i.e. marine radio) can burn them up (I have a 320 but s...
