Re: What's your longest race?

The problem with hogs are they can stay in thick cover and trot all day. Unless a dog can push them hard enough to make them run it is hard to break them down. Open woods is another story and dogs can shut them down fairly easy. A lot also depends on how much they are run and how dog savvy they are....

Re: What's your longest race?

My buddy Larry and I went Sat. behind the house and put out on a feeder. Knew a good hog had been there because of the tracks. Dogs trailed out and jumped. We ran this hog until about 3:30 and the dogs gave out due to the heat. This was in July in so. La. Went the next morning with Mike Starling to ...

Re: training to improve cold trailing?

Exposure and experience will help dogs but kind of like GVbear says you cant create it, a dog is either born with it and you just cannot put it in them. I have seen 8 month old pups that could trail what other dogs could not smell. Why? Their genetics plain and simple.

Re: Making a silent dog

I've got a Plott male that is semi silent. He coldtrails silent and he will open some when jumped but the main thing is he makes very few loses and when the dogs do make a lose, he is the first one to pick it up and he is gone with it before the others know he has picked it up. If it wasnt for garmi...

Re: Making a silent dog

Over the years I have had a few Plotts that were silent. I could have made a fortune breeding silent Plotts however it is not what I like. If a dog can smell it and move it, I want him opening. Just my preference. Back to your question I have had a couple of Plotts that were silent and they were out...

What's the breeding on your Plott? I wish UKC would give access to pedegrees but they do not. What do you hunt and good luck.

Re: Long nights sore legs and young dogs!

When I saw your title I thought you might be hunting some of Wayne Allens stock of dogs. He started the No. Ga, Plott line and had some impressive coon dogs. I hunted with Roy Stiles back in the 90's and Roy has always had good bear dogs and have always heard good things about the Roark line. You mi...

Re: Let’s talk.

The situation I am in is that I dont bearhunt as much as I used to. I dont need the grit I had in my Plotts for bearhunting. It is too much for hoghunting and I always have dogs that are busted up. I have hogdogs that will run and tree bear but I wouldnt call the beardogs. There is a difference. Whi...

Re: What age and why?

LawDawg, before I answer your question We seem to have a problem on this forum. You would think we have a cur dog audience because they are all silent mouth. This is how I have seen many websites and forums die because of non participation. There is a wealth of knowledge on here if people would just...

The Moral to the story

About 6 weeks or so ago I was sitting in my deer blind bored to death waiting till we can cut the hogdogs loose. The problem with sitting in a blind was I was thinking of all the the things I could be doing at the house. I was watching a big flock of birds fly by about 150 or so yards away. It looke...

Website

If not allowed Buddy can delete this. With deer season in and not being able to run the dogs I have been fooling around making a website or I should say, my better half Cheryl has. It is still in the beginning stages but y'all check it out and let me know what you think. If you use a cell phone it w...
