Re: Young Redbone
He is for sure a nice looking young dog. If he has nose, track, locate, tree, speed, intelligence and DESIRE without in-corrrectable faults; you have hit the jack box.

Dewey: Your last sentence in your last post says a ton; and I agree 100 percent. Today I had a pup with me while I cut brush and repaired fence. He was a pest trying to help me with what ever I was doing, but that is the kind of attitude that I want in a pup.

Dan; We all know the limitations of the information that names on a pedigree provide but still I would find it very interesting to see the background on the sire and dam or as much as you would like to share. Thanks.

Andyva; you just taught a college course in hunting with dogs in just 9 words "It's all in what you are willing to feed".

Re: Inconspicuous hunting rig ideas?
I go to the woods with my dogs to get away from the crazy that this world seems to be turning into. The less attention I attract the better. My world is about half way between the world described by Scrubrunner and the one described by David. Another [sort of selfish] reason for stealth is that hunt...

Re: Inconspicuous hunting rig ideas?
I have done it for years. Several years ago I had a Subaru station wagon with a two speed 4WD. It would go anywhere that you could lead a billy goat. LOL I now have a Jeep Cherokee 4WD. An 'Easy Loader' plastic dog box fits perfectly in the back. The more ragged it looks the better. When you park be...

Re: Hunt or Sense ?
One of the best jump, strike, start dogs that I have had would embarrass me loafing for an hour while my buddies dogs were hunting their butts off. Then, without noticing that he was gone. we would hear him open on a track, maybe over a 1/4 mile deep. I do not understand how or why but while he did ...

Re: PRICING A HOUND ?
I fear that we are hijacking this topic. If so I apologize. My main problem is running everything, sometimes even a bobcat. After 50+ years with coon dogs I very quickly know when a dog starts something other than a coon, because I know a coon. With the dogs that I am bobcat hunting I seldom know wh...

Re: PRICING A HOUND ?
I coon hunted for years at one level until a special hound [and her offspring] taught me what a truly top dog can do. The same was true with squirrel hunting. Many dogs straight from the pound can and will tree "a" squirrel but until that special dog came along, I had no idea how many and ...

Albert; Coyotes will do the same as your buck deer in our area and for reasons that I do not understand the dogs do not bay bark.

Re: Serious Question!
Welllll here goes a theory that I have held for a long time. Some of you will think that it is laughable and it may be. I believe that the scent is still there but it has changed and the dogs don't recognize it as the scent that they are searching for. I call it the emotional scent response. I know ...

Re: mi swamp rooster
Some of SW's predecessors could put it on a bobcat. But I know nothing of that breeding for quite a number of years. I would look at mom and dad and grand mom and grand dad not at Swamp Rooster.
