Re: spring season is over

Chilcotin hillbilly,
I need to watch your posts more closely, you guys in BC are the closest thing to running dogs in Alaska, and it looks like I could sure learn a lot from you.

Its interesting though- SE Alaska doesn't produce that many color-phase bears, except glacier bears. How often do you ...

Re: Dog feed!!!

AKZach,

Do what all the mushers down here in Willow do, at least part of the year. Feed your dog those colored-up chums and pinks! I am actually just learning how to do this (my wife has a great dane, need cheap feed) but a lot of the mushers go adn get a few limits of not-so-tasty chums, and ...

Houndfever55

Also ...

Re: Training off Brown Bears

Matt,
Yah that was my short term plan, that and going off visual sightings which really arent that hard to have up here. But the big issue is having them not cross a brownie's path, like in some of our more densely populated predator control areas.

Training off Brown Bears

All,

I suspect that a similar question has been asked here before, but here goes...

I am in Alaska and since there aren't a ton of houndsmen up here, I am trying to figure out how to get around some of the biggest issues associated with running hounds in the last frontier.

So, for some of the ...

New Alaska member

All,
I just recently created an account, and I am writing from Wasilla Alaska. I don't own any dogs, but I had helped run dogs on bear, coyote and coons in Wisconsin before I went into the military.

I am currently a wildlife specialist for a federal agency, and a student at the University of ...
