Re: Ranger vs can am defender vs Honda pioneer

Not sure what size machine you are looking for but for a 50" trail model, I dont think the pioneer 500 can be beat. We run ours with tracks in the winter and the 500cc motor has no problem turning them. It is shaft driven as opposed to a belt so no burning up belts like we always did with our P...

Re: Bear gun?

I use a 30-30 with 170gr soft points. It hasn't let me down yet. It doesn't have quite the knock down of a 45-70 but the recoil is very manageable and I can get follow up shots off very quickly.

Re: Dogs and wolves

A good friend of mine had an awesome bear dog that would strike wolves off the box. I kept telling him his dog was striking wolves and he argued with me. The dog is now dead, he got killed by wolves.

Re: Packing in dogs

Depends on the area I'm hunting. We have areas that are roaded up good and its easy to tailgate other dogs in. And some areas with no raods and if you dont dump the box at the strike you will never get anymore dogs into the race. I much prefer to just dump the box and let the dogs figure it out. I d...

I would buy at least one. Probably two depending on what you get the price down to.

Re: Side by Side

The outfit I work for has been running a Honda pioneer 500 with tracks for two years. Hasn't let us down and the 500 has plenty of power to turn the tracks. We've also ran a Polaris rzr 900. Had nothing but problems with the rzr and we went thru lots of belts with the tracks on.

Re: Running dog

To me it means the dog is a Running Walker, July, or Trigg. Or one of the above crossed to a tree hound.

Don't know anything about drags because I have never used one. But I have read on here many times guy say that those bobcat and lion scents in a bottle are nothing like the real cats smell.

Re: Ideas for dog box

I don't have any pictures but the over the rail box I built very similar to yours I used 1/8" aluminum on piano hinge. Folded straight up and pinned back to strike rail to hold open. Folded down and used same pin to hold closed. My slide in box I had built by Brian Cerelli also out of aluminum ...

Re: HEAT STROKE / HEAT EXHAUSTION!

Learned this lesson the hard way last July. Lost the best bear dog I've ever owned. She was 4 years old and in good running shape. Turned loose on a bear at 3am when it was good and cool, didn't tree it till 9:30am. Got to the tree and she was acting real wierd. She was dead two weeks later and the ...
