Quick & Deep is OK unless you walk under four or five coons on the way to a slick tree.

Not all young hounds will grab a track and run it hard right into the tree the first few times in the woods, but if he's got it in him keep hunting and it will come out. I have the first Walk with Wick book it's good but after you read it those walks in the woods help form a bond with your pup. As for as training goes If it's a small pup say 8 or 9 weeks old I will use a coon tail and a set of feet tied to the tail and the chase is on. Don't overdo anything keep it ...
