Re: Dogs Loading Up

Lots of good information, and debate, here fellas. I truly appreciate every one of you taking the time to respond with advice and different discussions. The new training began today and we are already working better on loading into the truck/box.

Re: Dogs Loading Up

I should also say that I use the command “load up” to which the dogs come to the truck and put their front paws on the tailgate. So, they know the command, they just don’t fully understand what I want out of it, I suppose. More work, and time, ahead!!

Re: Dogs Loading Up

Thanks for the advice. I guess I should have thought about backing the truck into a ditch to work on this. I have a ditch in front of my house so it should be very easy to work on. I try to use positive affirmation on all my training needs so I guess I need to incorporate that into this as well. Aga...

Dogs Loading Up

Hey guys. Forgive me for the rookie question, but I’m having issues with my dogs loading into the bed of the truck. When it’s time to load up, they will put their front feet on the tailgate and wait for me to pick them up. I know it’s not too high for them because my 8 year old lab jumps in there li...

Re: Dog food

Thanks for all the input. I was feeding once a day until about 3 months ago when I switched to twice a day. I feed around 5-6am and then again around 4-5pm, depending on what’s going on. I haven’t tried fasting the dogs, but sounds like maybe I should try that. I just purchased all new food and wate...

Re: Dog food

This is all a great read, guys. Thank you for sharing all of your years of experience. I recently started adding elk meat to my hound's diets (I have a friend who processes wild game, so I get a lot of scraps). My question is, how often are you feeding your animals? Once a day, or twice a day? I've ...

Re: Anyone get any cats yet???

We took a cat a couple weeks ago with my neighbor's dogs near Elko, NV. Chase lasted about an hour, maybe a little longer. Some guys will criticize and say he was too small to harvest, but he was my first and has now got me hooked on lions and hounds. 123 lbs, aged at 3 years old. Healthy cat. http:...

NV New Guy

Hey everyone. I am completely new to the hound game. I have been on several lion hunts, but just recently was able to tree and harvest my first lion. After that, I was hooked. I purchased my first hound yesterday and plan to begin hunting him with well seasoned dogs very soon (my neighbor is big tim...
