Thanks all for you advice and opinions. The dog has pyrometra, the vet is taking out all female organs now.
I suspected that might be the case. I am very glad you guys are able to deal with this and save her now because it probably would have eventually killed her. My experience is that this can ...

Re: Plott hound sick
I really don't know but I did want to ask why she's given antibiotics for this if it's not known what the causes is. Have you correlated any of this to anything possibly related… heat cycles (I know she's young), after meals or exercise, ingesting something?

Wow.
I am glad to see this question presented because what you asked about was roughly what I expected to get by changing my focus over to hounds. It's all I've known for a decade, I liked it and wanted to never be without it again. The answers provided so far have put perspective on how having ...

This is the first time I'm seeing your set up. Nice job! I imagine you won't have any problems selling it.

Re: new here
Hello and welcome.
Necessary clause. I do not own hounds so you may want to stop here.
My advice is to listen with your eyes wide open and find a good mentor.
Some like going it alone and I respect that ambition. It certainly has it's own benefits but I don't have a thousand years to learn about ...

Re: Dog food
It causes anxiety when dogs are fed, at random times and prefer consistency.
Perhaps. Conversely over dependency can lay the foundation for anxiety and invite in a set of unwanted behaviors as well - particularly where there are situations that the routine has to be broken. I've found that the ...

Re: Dog food
I'm all over the place when it comes to feeding my dogs. My preference is not to feed on any set schedule. Why? Simple. I think "pressure", when used correctly, is a valuable tool in developing and maintaining any working dog.

Re: Dog food
Crack it raw and put it in to the food. That's what I'd do anyway along with smashing down the shell from time to time and dropping that in with the egg. Few, if any, items maintain their full nutritive value when cooked.

David, you really are a gifted writer and I always enjoy reading your posts.
Separately, there's been a lot of interesting dialogue on this topic - much of which I follow myself, from fasting and feeding wild sourced proteins (fish and moose for example), to adjusted vaccination protocols, and a ...

Re: Montana Wolves
Interesting topic. I had no idea that wolves tangled with dogs. Not hounds anyway. What type of a situation would lead to such an encounter? After the same prey or do the hounds end up chasing the wolves? I don't honestly know, I'm just throwing stuff out there to see what might fit.

Re: Mindset Red Republican state Vs Blue state Democrat 101
Red Baron, it seems you are due for a vacation. You have someone inviting you out. I'll pay your way to make your trip out there. I've done it before for this kind of nonsense and certainly will always leave to invitation open to anyone who wants to walk in the tracks they've laid.

Jeez - did you copy that from somewhere? That's a pretty nifty story!
All I got is the wildling fur trapper I met in the backwoods of Alaska. I didn't take any pics of him but I got some of his wolf.

Re: Squatting
I guessed that was probably the case. Course, I image it'd be ok to omit that part of the story.
Where can I find a video of this? I don't even know why I am asking that, I just saw your regular old house cat do that to me when I pulled into my drive two nights ago. The fun part of that might have ...

Re: Squatting
Every time someone posts on this thread I get this highly amused look on my face. If I actually knew what it was like to hunt and have this type of stuff take place with cats, I think I'd write a children's short story series about this. A bit of a different spin on that poor Pepe le Pew cat.
