Re: Do you still train your dogs in the summer?

Snakes and foxtails are extremely bad in my area this time of year. On top of that you really have to watch your dogs with the heat.

Re: Fox tail grass

I work in one of the worst areas in the state for foxtails. 95% of our buisness in the summer is foxtails... I have seen foxtail abscesses in EVERY part of a dog/cats body. Seen them kill dogs going into there heart, lungs, and stomach cavity. Seen them in eyes, ears, salvary glands, tonsil cryps, ...

Re: "Safest" Hound Hunting State

I would say Utah is a good choice. Idaho would be a second choice though.

Re: treeing walker for fox

I would like to hear experiences about using treeing walkers in fox hunting. Edit. What I'm trying to solve I'm my head is treeing hounds generally comparing to running ones. I would say it depends. We have plenty of treeing dogs we have for varmint dogs. Walker, trig and plots. After these dogs ge...

Re: Dog adjusting to new owner

Did you get him on a trial period or did you outright buy him? I bought a dog this year and took him out the first day I had him and he hunted. I ave seen dogs that were supposed to be finished and they wouldn’t leave the truck. I have a hard time buying a dog without it being on a trial period or b...

Re: Getting dogs to come out of the bush

My dogs are tone trained and once I know a race is over I call them and tone them. I usually don’t have an issue with them coming back to the truck at this point. I always call before I tone so they know they are supposed to come back to the truck and not in trouble for what they just ran. Sent from...

Re: Yeti drops the NRA.

I called yeti on the phone yesterday. Basically they were a sponsor for the NRA. Giving them coolers for an extreme discount. The NRA would then sell the coolers or use them at the Friends of NRA dinners as auction items. The NRA would pocket the difference. Now the have to buy for the same price ev...

Looking for new old blood

Beastmode that is an amazing looking hound. If he hunts half as good as he looks, you are a happy man. Thank you. He is almost two and shows a lot of potential. He is new to running fox but that isn’t the easiest for a dog to master right away. He will strike a cat out of the box and has a good mou...

Re: Scent drag

I found this out at my first field trial this last weekend. There are hunting dogs and there are trial dogs. A good trial dog doesn’t mean they’re a good hunting dog and true the other way as well.

Looking for new old blood

Where in California are you? I don’t have a male for sale but may be able to work out a stud deal. I have a high tan Trigg walker with a little Plott in him that’s almost two that is fast, trees hard and has a good cold nose. I am in Cottonwood which is near Red Bluff. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.c...

Not to sound like a complete asshole but if I were in Idaho I would be looking in to running bigger critters. The opportunities are endless there.

Re: New to scent dogs, looking for advice.

If you have any bobcat and/or bear chunks of hide in the freezer pull them out a few times a week and pull it with a rope letting the pup chase it. Praise him a lot when they chase it and let them catch it a chew on it every few chases. As soon as they lose interest put it away. Don’t force them to ...

Pad treatment

What are you guys using for pad treatment? Been running pad heal but thinking about switching to an aerosol type to make application a little easier.
