Re: the .243 rifle and its load

Take a look at CZ 527 bolt action with set trigger. You might change your mind. Not to argue. Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod. In Washington, you can’t own a gun you can’t pronounce the name of. Not sure about Idaho. That’s the second thing they ask you for in Washington. “OK sir, pronounce the brand ...

Re: the .243 rifle and its load

At the price point , take a look at Tikka t3. Also, that would keep you away from weatherby ammo too. They are made with same hammer forged barrell and same action as sakko rifles. I Archery hunt but bought oldest daughter one in 270 two days later I bought one in 300wm for myself I've been very Ha...

Re: the .243 rifle and its load

Never seen a guide carry a rifle to dislodge a stuck animal but I suppose it could happen. 45-70 Marlin Guide gun might be good for that. LOL! 243 is fine for what you explained and it is a sweetheart to shoot. You can get a Model 7 Remington that is light and short and in synthetic makes a good li...

the .243 rifle and its load

I would think this would be a great black bear (or lion) cartridge. Not too powerful so as to damage the pelt for a good rug. Not a whole lot of kick but a well-placed shot should do. Is this gun still powerful enough to saw off a limb to get a stuck "Smokey" down from a tree top? Will the...

Re: If your shot bear or lion is stuck in...

I have seen limbs shot off many times. On a recent Wounded Warrior hunt the game wasn't moving good and several of us had worked hard to get these guys cats. We finally got a nice Tom treed in a large pine that was up high sitting on the biggest limb on the tree. The hunter shot the cat and it just...

Re: If your shot bear or lion is stuck in...

Could one reasonably expect their paid guide or outfitter to recover the animal? One can not reasonably expect their paid guide to do anything un-ethical, immoral, or illegal. If there is a legal way to take game home for you, they will do everything in their power to do it. I'd have to ask my loca...

Before GPS collars, motor vehicles....

....flashlights, and CB/Motorola radios how was hunting with hounds formerly done, be it bear, fox, bunny, deer (down South), kie-yote, lion or coon? I imagine men on horses, burros or mules with tin horns. They may have had burning torches at night on a coon hunt. How they kept track of dogs sans G...

Re: If your shot bear or lion is stuck in...

It would be ok if you own the tree I guess. It’s a problem if you don’t. that will hurt the reputation of hunting with hounds. You must always follow the law even when training dogs... I like your “pracka pracka” though. I’ll have to remember that one because I never would have thought of it. I kno...

that will hurt the reputation of hunting with hounds. You must always follow the law even when training dogs. There may be a limit in number off lead on the ground in your jurisdiction.

the tree. This is where it would be handy for somebody in the huntin' party to be sportin' an Echo Timber Wolf chainsaw....pull, pull, pracka-pracka-pracka- buzz, buzzz, BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, TIMBER!!!! Now, if the treed animal were falling to my gun, I'd holler GERONIMO! even if he weren't' wearing...

I dream of smokin' me a smokey!!

Here is a quote from me in defense of lawful bear hunting on YouTube... Smokin' a Smokey over a Barrel Yes, those "heroic" men and boys in camo with their dogs and rifles. Cowardly? I don't know. I believe they are hunting bruins legal and proper. The population has to be thinned so the ga...

Are running Walkers ever used on wild pigs?

These are dogs similar to the American foxhound. I know black mouth curs are used but which typical HOUND breeds are used on pigs?

Re: Seek dogs with the hearts of American soldiers: brave but gentle heroes

I don't think hunting dogs should be something of rocket science with a steep learning curve, should it be, David? They don't have to be perfect but just be well-rounded and satisfy their masters. What does one really have to know or WHOM does one really have to know to have just ONE fair-to-middli...
