Re: Help choosing/finding my first hunting dog
If you want to send me your number I will give you a call. I have leopards and I live in PA. I run my dogs on coon and bear. I have a litter about to hit the ground and if all goes well next spring I should have a litter out my other female.

Re: Traveling
Thanks for the info, and pointers. Yes you have a training season year round but believe that is residents only. I believe non-residents have some specific dates. I could be wrong thou but thought that is how I read it. I live in PA and we cant run bear legally with hounds here so I hunt WV. GVBear...

Re: About the field.
The point of tradition mounted fox hunting is not to kill the fox at all and if the fox is killed it is because the hounds catch it. Mounted fox hunting is a sport that is most often done by people with money and is more about horsemanship than the hounds.

Re: Live trapping coon
I've used all kinds of bait, anything sweet typically works. One of my favorite things to use is syrup on the pan. I typically set my traps close to water where there are tracks.

Re: West Virginia
I live in PA and travel to WV and bear hunt a little. There is a lot of National forest land to hunt on. Depending on what area of WV your looking to hunt there are 3 different early seasons in Sept-Oct. The main season is in December and runs most of the month. Even by the end of December bears are...

Re: Telemetry Collar on a Bobcat?
I have heard of someone putting a garmin collar on one and turning it loose and then waiting a few hours and turned a young hound loose. I would imagine it not being legal but he said it worked well for training his young dog.

Re: Has it always been this hard?
There is a lot of great advise here. My only thought is why are you looking for a female when you already have one and a related one at that. If the female is proven I would cross them. If you want to learn about breeding hounds I would listen to the Bear Hunting Magazine podcast with Steve Herd. He...

Re: Cur dogs near va?
I don't have any mountain curs but I have a litter of leopard cur/hound whatever you want to call them crossed with a plott about to drop any day in southern PA. The mother and father are both coon hunted and the father(plott) has been bear hunted as well. I have had curs for awhile and these dogs a...
