That’s impressive. Wish I had some Belle dependents too lol. Bear hunting sounds a lot like hog hunting except for the fact that bear will climb. Sometimes I think hogs do too because they just seem to be able to vanish at times.

Re: Hunts I remember. Al Baldwin.
That’s knowing your quarry and knowing the terrain for sure. I would sure love to have gotten to hunt with him. There is so much to learn from those kind of hunters. I’ve said it before, but all of my hunting buddies except for one, we’re old enough to be my father or grandfather. These guys taught ...

Re: Hunts I remember. Al Baldwin.
Sounds like Tom was a heck of dog man. To have dogs that caliber and that versatile says a lot. There aren’t many of those guys left.

Re: Hunts I remember. Al Baldwin.
What year was that Al? Did you ever have another encounter with the lady? Tell us another, I know more than just myself love reading them. It’s funny how our memories get triggered sometimes. I’ve been guilty of going down the highway and see a certain landscape myself and think of a particular hunt...

Re: Is one sex more elusive than the other
Al, two things that we don’t have here in our area are rocky, mountainous areas and alligators. Those two things sure ad a twist to hunting. The real smart people say that a hog is one of if not the smartest animals. I believe that. They are as resilient as they get as well. Most people don’t think ...

Re: Natural Tree or Trained to tree?
That sounds exciting with the bear. It’s funny how you can think you’re in control only to find out you aren’t in a split second. That bear standing up like that threw a wrinkle in it for you. I remember hunting a Boy Scout ranch one winter. It was COLD! Any standing water had ice and it was drizzli...

Re: Is one sex more elusive than the other
Al I live in the eastern part of is still considered central Texas. Hogs are super intelligent and like the cats, after missing them once or twice they are really educated. Hogs can see things happen to other hogs and learn from it. For instance traps, they can come up on hogs in a trap that they di...

Re: Natural Tree or Trained to tree?
Al that might be at least a partial truth. The other day one of our dogs had three or four sows and some shoats bayed. It was really thick and from 10-12 feet away I couldn’t see them. He was baying hard and cautious but when our young dog went in to honor him, he wouldn’t bay. I watched him check t...

Re: Let’s talk.
That’s good bud. I think there were 3 maybe 4 of them that fell into an old cistern that had no lid or cover over the opening. They had a dog or two fall in it and went to retrieve it. One went in to help the other and then another but they were all overtaken by gases and died before help could get ...

That’s a another good story. I’m guessing the plott got mortally wounded before they got to the final spot where y’all dispatched him?

Is one sex more elusive than the other
So I was reading some of Al’s stories and it got me to thinking about past experiences with my hog hunting compared to other disciplines. Do y’all think that one sex is more elusive than the other? With my hog hunting I have seen both sexes be pretty creative but I would have to say that the boars s...
