Re: What type of gun do you carry with you hunting?

A buddy that I hunt with has a 45-70, weight was the only thing that I don’t like about it and that it will blow your ear drums out lol. That was my second option if I don’t find something else.

What type of gun do you carry with you hunting?

Whether you bear, hog, cat or whatever kind of hound hunting you do, what gun do you carry? This is my 3rd season back to having hounds and I don’t ever carry a gun with me hunting. No matter if it’s training season or kill season. I just like taking my hounds out seeing them work. I Have no want to...

Re: training to improve cold trailing?

This is a topic that seems to come up a lot in the group of guys I hunt with. I believe they are born with it but it’s more about the hounds brain. Are they smart enough to use that nose or slow down and work the track. I have seen hounds seem to follow a track in the snow by sight and not by scent....

Re: At what age do you start breeding a gyp?

That’s one of my main reasons to why I want to go ahead and breed her. I know anytime I turn her loose it could be the last time. Now with that being said In December she walked two different bear and never ended up with a hole. Hoping she might of smartened up

At what age do you start breeding a gyp?

I have a plott gyp she is 2 be 3 in November. Really fast, smart, gritty and can run all day long. So my question is what age would you breed her. I’m leaning toward sooner then later because she is gritty and ends up getting tore up on a mean bear. Second question is, if I breed her will it affect ...

Re: Let’s talk.

Bear season came to an end today. It’s always bittersweet when it ends. Hunting buggy, equipment and hounds are all ready for a break. Last five days, we ended up treeing 5 and killing 4 with first time shooters. My 2nd year of really having my own hounds. I hunted them every chance I got. In all th...

Re: Let’s talk.

She’s white hollow and Pocahontas cross. She opens when she finds the track and usually doesn’t bark again till she is looking at it. I have 2 male plotts they are Pocahontas. They do good just not as quick as my gyp and they are to mouthy on track. Have a full weems bred gyp that’s just turned a ye...

Re: Let’s talk.

My gyp plott in the last 8 months has had 9 holes in her and ripped rib muscles. I was hoping after the first one she would learn to stack back, go in grab fur and put pressure on them. She will be 2 in November. I am kinda in a rock and hard place with her. When she got holes last December, wife an...

Re: Let’s talk.

A bear is the same really. He will walk until he gets tired of getting his ass chewed on, then he will back up to tree, rock or what ever he can find and fight. I want a dog that is gritty and make him climb but don’t want a stupid gritty one. If he is walking a long then they better be chewing on h...

Re: Let’s talk.

We got on a big boar last Saturday. That wouldn’t climb walked him for 6 hours. My lead dog ended up with 3 holes and a ripped muscle in her ribs. Few other dogs got a few holes, one dog ended up with broken ribs. Our bear season comes in tmw for 10 days

Wv hound hunter

Maybe a long shot but worth a shot. Few buddies and I are looking to try and do some hog hunting. We usually just bear hunt but wanting to try something new. Looking for something on the east coast. Was looking at wma areas but worry where season is only for a couple weeks. We would be dealing with ...

Re: Beware the novice

Yeah I had a guy shoot the bear before I could get there with leads. He had a shotgun and beat the bear down the tree so he could get a good shot. Well it wasn’t a good shot. It got real western got a few dogs with holes. Needless to say that idiot doesn’t hunt with us anymore Sent from my iPhone us...

Re: Beware the novice

I always put a follow up shot point blank In the head before we unleash any dogs. Have had the same thing happen on a dead bear. We had a good early season. We ended up killing 4 out of the three days we was able to hunt.

Just wanted to see what everyone thought about the 200? What the price will be and when it will be available in the states? Will it track 15s?

Re: Kinda slow

Yeah I have had the same problem deer proofing dogs. I rig my dogs and can have a deer stand 10 feet from the truck dogs never say a word. Go on down the road dogs blow up like it’s a screaming hot bear track. Get one of the dogs down and they take you straight to a deer track. Baffles the heck out ...
