Re: younge dog help
Give her time, keep her on hogs & hunting with older dogs. She's only 9 months old, if she's going to bays & hunting fresh sign then she will probably be just fine at 18 months and be striking her own!! Good luck!

Calling techniques
My wife, kids & I have just bought our first call and have been out once. Not much luck, got some yotes to talk to us, but no show. Would like to know some techniques that will help. Call constant, every few minutes, or anything will be helpful. My kids are really looking for their first dog!!

Re: redbone for a hog dog??
I have had 2 red bones and both were very, very good hog dogs. Rough as hell, good noses(better when not so dry), and stamina to finish a track no matter what. Their grit did shorten their life span, but both were very solid & I wouldn't hesitate to use another.

Re: Any hog hunters in East TN
As far as striking from the box, I'm not sure you can train that. Some dogs will, most won't in my experience. If you were in Texas, you could run with me year round. Good luck!

Re: Catch dogs
I'm not sure you can get a catch dog not to catch a bear if it catches hogs. Takes alot of game and not much brain to catch! Jmo, but pit is the way to go, I don't believe any cd will have the stamina to run with hounds on the ground. My CDs will catch anything being bayed, no matter what it is.

Re: South Texas hog doggers?
I live an hour west of San Antonio, I would love to take the young man on a hunt. I will be home from Monday to Sunday this week. If not with me, I can definitely get something done with a buddy of mine.

Re: does your dog bay in the pen?
I agree with Donald, I hunt past trapped hogs pretty regularly down here and my dogs know the difference. They even start others off the trap, but won't even acknowledge the trapped ones. They have learned their lesson. But I can send them in to drag one out if the need arises. I believe alot of it ...

Cuts and cur/plott crosses. The reasoning is I like rough, silent dogs.

Re: does your dog bay in the pen?
Some dogs just don't like the pen I believe. I have a rough as heck, lotsa bottom, hog striking cur, that will climb out of a pen. Drive isn't an issue with this dog, I feel he just feels confined or uncomfortable in a bay pen. If there is a tree in the pen or some bushes, he will act normally, but ...

Re: Anyone ever use Rottweilers
I agree with pops, if true game bred they will catch other dogs from what I have seen and tried. Tried one once, and was a hog catching machine in a pen, turn loose to a bay & caught a dog. Last hunt for her. As far as, a cd baying, I haven't had it happen yet, and I have pushed mine very hard and ...

I tries to call him once, but have alot of things come up here at the house. So I didn't think I could make the drive yet. Once I get everything straightened back out and more stable around here, I'm gonn try him again. Thanks for your help.

Catching cats on the ground
I'm no cat hunter but I was wondering, do y'all ever catch them on the ground or do they always tree? If you do, can a pack of dogs handle them pretty easy, or is it just bad for the dogs? I've been on a few boars I wish would have treed! Just curious, we have a few down here, but no big trees!
