Re: Chain training (continued)
David, i havent ran a bear since 1993 nor have my dogs. My biggest problem i have with the dogs i am hunting and breeding now is keeping the locate and tree in them for where i hunt, and we both know where the lack of that comes from. You must have my hunting style and dogs confused with someone else.

Re: Chain training (continued)
I dont know how i came across to cause anyone to think that i was saying chain breaking is a bad thing. Its how i keep my dogs all the time and have since the early 70’s. I guess my point was just because a dog is chain broke doesnt gaurantee the safety of a dog in a snare. Where i hunt we have a lo...

Re: Chain training (continued)
David, all my dogs are chain broke as soon as they start getting to far from home and getting in trouble, usually around 4-5 months of age. I would never raise a dog without being able to tie them out. The dog that i had get in a snare was exellent on the chain but that day she was running down the ...

Re: Chain training (continued)
Im not sure what i did to upset you,i just voiced my opinion on a subject that unbeknownst to me you were the only one that knows anything about it. Nothing i said was aimed at you or your dogs or the Clays dogs. But just for shits and giggles lets hang a bunch of snares in a fence and turn a “bobca...

Re: Chain training (continued)
Not a fan of kennels so for the vast majority of my life the dogs have been on chains. 6’ of chain with a good swivel in the middle. A dog collar and a snare are two different things completely. Dogs on a chain with a collar can and will lunge at times. ie a barn cat walks by the dog lot, very few do...

Very high maintenence. The older the machine the more maintenence, and you dont just go down to Napa and get over the counter parts.

Re: Question for experienced bobcat hunters
In my experience most dogs that tree late have made dogs that located their own trees. I do believe some dogs learn to depend on others to tree & never make dependable tree dogs. I often thought those dogs would have made dependable tree dogs if they had been hunted alone. One thing I have noti...

Re: Question for experienced bobcat hunters
Every dog i have ever hunted had a very distinct locate bark if they were actually locating. Different from their striking, trailing, treeing, and baying bark. If you arent hearing it they probably arent locating on their own but just me too treeing with the others
