Re: pup price question
The last 2 dogs I have purchased were for amounts higher than the average pup price. Typically, in the dog world, you get what u pay for. I chose to purchase these pups from well-established lines and very experienced breeders, and I have not regretted my decisions one bit. They may cost more up ...

Re: Need advice on training
It helps immensely to start a dog at a younger age, but it's not too late for her to learn the game. Train her like you would a pup. Show her the basics and get her on some live critters when the time is right. You'll know pretty quickly if she has the natural ability and desire. If she can't do it ...

Re: coldest nosed line?
His sire is French Creek Valley Hos; dam has a lot of coonhunting champions in her line. Mainly Northern Blue and Jet breeding. Spare Time Spanky shows up twice in her pedigree. He's a cold trailing son of a gun that stands about 27" tall, built lanky (70 pounds) and is very fast and agile on the ...

Re: coldest nosed line?
I've got Cameron and Sugar Creek breeding in my kennel, and of the different colored hounds that I've owned, they are the coldest nosed by far. You can't go wrong with either if you are looking for a cold nose. As for the Camerons (like any other line or strain), there are houndsmen breeding ...

Re: Best boots for riding/hiking?
I like lacers and have used Danner hunting boots for years to ride/hike, but one thing to consider with any lace up boot is that if you get hung up in a stirrup, the boot is not coming off, and you can be drug a long way, or worse.

Movement to legalize lion hunting--Please read!
There is a strong movement to legalize our right to hunt lions with hounds. The goal is to get it on the 2012 Oregon ballot measure. Everyone needs to get on board. There are petitions now circulating throughout the state. Make sure you and everyone you know signs one. All the houndsmen and pro ...

Re: Kennel ? Two males
As long as they are all behaviorally sound, it should not be an issue. Kenneling them together also allows you to correct any adverse behavior and set the rules. I like my hounds to be a "team," whether at home or in the field.

Re: How many 500# bears
Steve Phipps (Crazy Cascade Blueticks) has caught some monster bears over the years (500+ and 600+ pounders.). His largest is a 765-pound California black bear that ranked #1 on the Boone and Crockett at the time. His bears are the largest I have ever heard of being caught with hounds.

Re: Glass Eye-Cull or Not?
Many breeds of dogs have brown, hazel or even yellow eyes, but there are also some breeds that are more prone to blue eyes, commonly referred to as glass eyes. The breeds most commonly associated with glass eyes include Australian Shepherds, Blue Heelers, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs, Catahoulas ...
