Possible rodenticide poisoning
Anybody ever had to deal with possible rodenticide poisoning? My dog is bleeding from his nose and it won’t stop. He had a surgery and that’s when we found he wasn’t clotting properly. He’s been on vitamin k, but his nosebleed had to be mostly stopped with epinephrine. They also started him on stero...

Re: Coles National Cat Hounds
Closest thing I've seen is when I lived in Redding, Ca. I friend of mine bought a young English looking hound from Cole and at about a year old was starting to come on to bears. I only hunted with him a couple times. Saw him strike a track that someone else's pack had just run through the area. Neve...

Re: Cold nosed plotts?
CRA, not sure of the exact specifics of who it was when, but I have read articles referring to some cross breeding so between leopard colored and and plotts. I would assume this is where some of the Maltese brindles and the buckskins come from in the plott lines.

Re: Looks like the makings of a lion dog.
Dewey, you sure breed them to type...that pup looks exactly like the one out of your breeding that I saw out here last year. It must be a different litter cause that dog was a yearling last year. Great picture!

Re: crossing with running dogs
Dewey, Are you saying that if I want to add the proposed benefits of running dog blood to the hounds I have (I.e. Track style, opening at the right time etc...), or say I want to add more "tree locating ability" and decide to breed to a line of dogs that has a history of having what I want...

Re: From Bear hunting to fox hunting...
Just curious, when you started your new pack, did you go with a different Ind of hound? One bred specifically for foxes/ other varmints? How did you go about training them from scratch? I might be moving to an area with a good fox population, don't think my cat/lion dogs will be able to make the tra...

Re: Running dogs that tree
How the hell did this topic get so convoluted? I personally would hunt a poodle if it treed cats regularly, don't know why people have to start flinging shit about how we don't have "real" cat dogs out here and it's because we "mismanage" the population. I think you oregon guys h...

Re: Rigging Topic
Scott and dhostetler, I hear you and your experiences are very similar to mine, just wondering if I'm missing runnable tracks a few hundred yard above or below the road. Example, I have driven a certain road next to a river for years and often find lion tracks in good snow and a few cats. This year ...

Re: Rigging Topic
Al, you mean be cautious that I'm turning out on good game? I'm very cautious...probably ruined a good strike dog prospect by being too cautious. I usually turn loose until I see a track unless my older dog opens. Haven't had much luck getting a track going from a strike unless the track is on the r...

Re: Rigging Topic
Rigging cats seems to be the least of my worries! Got snow last night, went out to find a track and my truck broke down, had to fix it on the side of the road (wife was happy to get that call : :). Now the snows mostly melted and it's gonna be in the teens tomorrow, but bad cat pop and crappy condit...

Re: Rigging Topic
Dewey, I don't doubt your cat hunting expertise...I'm sure you've forgotten more than I'll ever know about it. I have a few thoughts on your comments: 1st, I think you are probably right about needing lots of cats, brush and patience to train rig dogs for cats. I'm not a strict cat hunter, I've real...

Re: Rigging Topic
Is it breeding, training or conditions? How do you make your first reliable rig dog to build your pack around? I want to be able to to run cats even when we have no snow or crappy snow reliably? Looking advice on how to do that?

Re: Running dogs that tree
Mt bobcat season is dec. 1- feb. 15 unless quota is filled earlier, which it usually is on the western side of the state. Andy, I think you should sell tickets to this event, although you might have a bidding war for that hound if it meets your requirements.
