A dog that has brains that is hunted consistently with a dog that says very little on a track can learn over time to be very conservative with it's mouth or get left out on the race have seen it several times over the years.

There are hounds that have been bred to consistantly catch bobcats!

Olen ran only plotts to my knowledge he did do some plott swapping with Gordon Pace in the 1980s I know. They were fairly tight built dogs.

We are on a bobcat thread if they have been proven with great success on bobcat they would be used here for that. Give them a try and let me know your success. I'll be waiting for pics and videos. Hope they work for you.

All the crosses like you are talking have been tried through out the years if the were successful they would still be around. Yes a couple may work here and there. If you are wanting to catch cats consistantly go with a proven strain of cat dogs and you won't be wasting alot of valuable time. Just l...

Rickeylane06 just curious why if wanting to catch bobcats you are not going with a well know strain of bobcat dogs in your area? It seems like you are setting yourself up for failure with elkhounds and beagles?

It slows down in this area as snakes get bad. Coon hunting along the rivers is a plus for some.

Dogs can catch in about any temps it's the houndsman that gets smarter with age when to go out and when to stay home. Andy

It truely depends on the dog and and it's genetics on weather they tree early or if they are a little later on the locate and tree but if they can't do this alone in my opinon are not worth keeping. Andy
