Re: Corn Fields
Most of the time they bust out of corn and look for wood. I have only had a couple stay in and bay. I think it depends alot on the bear and the size of the field. There is nothing more exciting than walking into a bay in the corn....

Re: bluetick/plott speed
A good hound is a good hound. Color doesn't make a difference. Anybody that says one breed is better than another is full of it. Its all what you have and prefer.

coarse coat
I have a female with a coarse long coat. The whole litter came out like this. Bolth parents are beautifull plotts with fine coats. The papers burned up in a fire on the sire and the dams were never sent in. Could anybody guess the cause of this. The pups that i know of all run great, even that they ...

Re: What do you think?- Bear Weight
Maybe around 140- 150 dressed but dont trust that, I still get fooled. But remember some people are live weight and some are dressed. I like to go with dressed weight because I dont like to drag anymore than I have to.

Re: Best plott-breed for bear-hunting?
The best plotts I have seen are grade from guys that have hunted them for years. Breed on results rather than papers or the almighty dollar. Cull hard and never breed just to get puppies out of just dogs that can run. Breed dogs that are better than Ok.

Re: Grit & Heart-Male vs. Female
I would say their is not much difference on grit and heart. In my eyes a female is faster and easier to please you. Males that have grit and heart are harder to find, alot more hardheaded and independent. I have seen a lot more males hurt or killed, so what does that mean... to much grit not enough ...

Re: Coyote Question
I had two hounds a running walker and a treeing walker, in the deep snow in vt especially wet snow the coyote was in trouble. Here the yotes will split up so no problem there. When the snow is not to deep you can have a long day and need more than a couple dogs to relay.
