Re: Can someone explain this?

Just my guess, it sounds like a Bear chase, if your other dogs quit the track because they have not been on Bear before, this may explain why they came in to you. Your other dog may have had the Bear bayed. The type of pines you show on your picture are not lilely to hold a large Bear, so it just ma...

Re: which pack saddle

If you are looking for books on packing I would recommend two "Packin' In On Mules and Horses" by Smoke Elser and Bill Brown which is the best of the two , has great pictures and illustrations. The second book is " Horse Packing In Pictures" By Francis W. Davis Its not quite as d...

Re: Do you beleive feeding your dog the kill, makes them bet

I hunt for the thrill of the chase and the music from my hounds. My dogs have treed many lions and bears which I have shot with a camera, they have never tasted lion or bear meat. They run and tree to please me and when I get to the tree they show me this. The more I praise them the better they tree...

Re: marshall reciever

I have used the Marshall system for the past 5 years with no problems what so ever. Have been able to track up to 8 miles with no trouble, and this is in some mountianous areas. The fact that the receiver runs on a 9 volt battery and the collars use AA batteries makes them very simple to replace. Yo...

Re: lion size

Thanks to those of you that responded to my question. The reason I ask is because I do not kill the cats I tree, I run them for the thrill of the chase, the kill means nothing to me. The only cats I have shot in the past ten years have been with a camera. When looking at a cat in the tree it is very...

If it is in Wall Mart it must be a Chinese cat, because everything in Wall Mart comes from China!!

Re: pretty neat huntin spot

I hunt the mountians of Northern New Mexico, Taos area. Looks some what like your area, but much more timber and alot steeper. Clifts and rocks are common as well as long runs. My dogs and I hunt alot on dry ground and on foot, covering up to twenty miles in a day is not uncommon. I do use a mule at...

lion size

Was talking to another lion hunter the other day, and he was telling me about a cat that he had taken last year weighing 220 lbs. Well this sounded a bit large to me, for in the many years that I have run cats , I have yet to see one that tops 150 lbs. What are some of the actual confirmed weights t...

Re: Old Hounds

Just a little more about the older hound. Saturday my two older dogs, one 9 and the other 10, along with my 5 year old spent 4 1/2 hours on a lion that refused to tree, he bayed at least four times, and once jumped 40 feet off a cliff. Finally had to catch the dogs and stop the chase, was 4:30 and 6...

Re: what does good mean to you????

I agree about the chance of running over your dog, but also behind your truck he gets dust and exhaust fumes that hamper his strike ability. I would try and work him with another dog that runs ahead of the truck to get him to do it also. LoneHunter ___________________________________________________...

Re: Price question

I agree with the pricing that has been quoted thus far. If you are looking to buy or price a mule check http://www.luckythreeranch.com and go to the classified section it has quite a few mules for sale. It has been said that once you ride a good mule, compared to a horse, it is like riding a Cadilia...

Anal Glands

Have any of you had problems with your dogs Anal Glands? By this I mean rubbing across surfaces with their but to try and release them. I know that they can be drained manually, but my question is how would one do it and what pressure is needed to acomplish it? Any help here would be great. LoneHunt...

Old Hounds

I know that this will stir some contention but just my thoughts, want to see what some of you think about it. I have noticed quite a bit of this type of add in the dog classified " Decided to sell my lead dog" when the dog is 9 or 10 years old. We all know that hounds at that age are in th...

Re: more lion help

I agree with what has been said, but I let the hounds figure out what is going on. If the track is good they will let you know and if you know your dogs you will know by their actions and barks just what is going on. If they can't line out the track leash them and follow it yourself until your lead ...
