Id never turn a light on a coon dog. Prolly cuz my old man woulda biffed me upside the hea if I ever turned a light on for any other reason than to walk or to shine a tree "once a dog was treed" for quite a while.

When I use to coon hunt we always tied are dogs back and we never let them chew on the coon. I don't think a tree dog needs a reward to tree. We always wanted our dogs to use their energy to tree coon not fight or chew on dead ones. No clue how Id do it today. I'm a lot more lax bout most everything.
