It could be a couple things, First is PICA its when dogs or people just eat weird things. This is usually related to anexity or stress. They make a spray the gutiar players use on the fingers when they get sore. It works like a charm. It called finger ease or something like it. Look in your local music store that sell gutairs. Lasts a long time.

If the pups are least than 6 weeks you can just snip them off with a sharp pair of scissors or take them to a vet. this is cheap while they are young. if you want to remove them off an older pup I have used a tight rubber band tied behind the nail. it will fall of in a week of or. the only concern ...

usually this is genetic and other hounds in the line have had a problem with it. I agree with the previous post best fix is to spaid the female. Good luck
