Yes Tim I probably should. Been riding these dogs shirt tails because they are reliable and “real life” has been a bit on the chaos side..it is going to catch me flat footed.
Been running my daughters Min Pincher with the big dogs ...perhaps he will take up the slack? Lol.

Re: Don't lose emphasis on treeing by scent in your lion hounds
I have three old dogs..they have a lot of experience on cougar. But I can’t catch a cat if I leave one of the dogs out..have tried several times with the two. Can throw this dog with either one and have a good hunt. He is the one that trees. Course sometimes the cat has snuck out and he don’t know s...

Re: TOM LIONS NOT SCRAPING,WHAT'S UP?
Seems to me a Tom scratches more when he is coming into his own and a she is due to be in. But older Toms don't scratch much if any I don't think they need to. We always have more scratching after a large dominant Tom has been shot. When a big Tom is around the young cats don't scratch as often they...

Re: Running lions with one dog????
You don't have to walk a leashed dog. You only have to know how close you are to the Tom. An example is a old track going into a series of rim rocks a know "day bed" area walk the top of the rims with a dog hucking some rocks small boulders down off the rims..You bump your Tom off of his s...

Re: Running lions with one dog????
You put your dog on top of the cougar..it is not about cold trailing it is about getting the cat caught.

Re: Running lions with one dog????
it is all in how you(the man) can read sign..put your dog on a jump the race will not last more then twenty minutes 90% of the time. It is a pretty good strategy in wolf country

Re: Running lions with one dog????
single dog usually is more timid may even come back to you rather then park under the tree or hold out in a bay up. For what it's worth I have not lost any cats that way we just walk into the cat together..one particular Tom was bad he crawled into a patch of lodgepole blowdown young redbone I was h...

Re: TOM LIONS NOT SCRAPING,WHAT'S UP?
Mike for what its worth and probably not very much I have not found a consistent pattern in how and why Toms scratch. Here they have not for two years but it was stupid how much the year previous ..I can say that every three years or so there is a lot of marking but very little in the mean time....T...
