Re: LION SEASON IN NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO CLOSED
Well there must be a trickle down effect, because they are killing females left and right here in UT. It is very difficult to find a track these days. I went into the taxidermist the other day, he told me " I got a Monster Tom in the back" so I went to check it out, and well they called it 175, I ...

Re: hunting solo----what "Type" of dog
Amen Nikki, you can make the right dog do just about anything, it is alot easier to start with a pup. As far as a specific breed, I think any of them would work.

Re: want your opinion on this lion
How often do you just "Bay Up" a cougar? I have seen 1 that just walks and will not climb. Not saying it doesn't happen. I have seen alot of them in the rocks, where the dogs are right there with them, and have never seen a dog that was killed by the cougar, I have seen them get tore up real bad ...

Re: Need help with practical joke?
I found one that was molded out of plastic or however they do that, it was fun to go up a popular road, make a track across the road, and watch the next dogger come around the corner and lock them up, and dump the hounds. A few times we put scent on the deal and there dogs would blow out of there ...

Re: just getting started
SouthPaw, the best system I have found for our area is a Quick Track, the Wildlife systems are great trackers as well, but are a pain to carry when you are hiking. Quick Track and Johnson have great tracking collars, once again the Quick Track for me has proven to have the best long range pick up. I ...

Re: Book Cliffs lion tag
If it was my tag I would hunt hard and fill it, because if you don't when the HO season hits, somebody else will. Last year they filled the quota, and it filled rather fast once it went to HO. There is alot of country, and a good amount of lions. I wish it was just a LE unit, fun country to hunt in.

Re: Forgot the Cheese and Crackers
Ike, I feel ya man. You ever been down in Brush Creek above Vernal, or Ashley Creek Gorge, no raods go down into these canyons, and steep is an under statement, these are the time we all sit back and wonder why we even bother hounding. The worst is when you can hear them baying a bear and can't get ...

Re: How big or small?
Looks like a good Tom, that big blocky head is a dead giveaway, but like Cold Track said, you can't even start to guess on size. Nice catch though, keep em treed.

Re: What gun to carry while hunting?
I have a .22 Mag pistol that I always carry along while Cat hunting. As far as Bear, a .40 cal. I have never needed to use either other than harvesting game. Wolves, well we are lucky in that regard. The .22 mag is light and packs a good punch.

Jeffs Dogs are the route I am looking to go for the all around Big Game Dog, Jeff and Brandon hunt hard. They were camped in East this spring and did very well, caught 2 mean bears down in the brush, and held them tight. Jeff is a good guy, and will tell you how it really is.
