Re: Dog Handling 101
Might not be the original owner's fault. My dad bought a little mule one time when I was about 10-12. He worked and worked with that little mule, never could get him right. I stayed in trouble for not attending school. After he would whip the shit out of me for it, I would beat the piss out of that ...

Re: New to Bobcat Hunting help?
I got two littermate sisters on order. Maybe one will fire on bobcat. Maybe both. I have spent some money on pups, only to have them quit a hot bobcat. Like run across the road in front of us hot. They gotta want to catch that little bastard. Wanting to maybe chase it cause somebody else is wont get...

Re: New to Bobcat Hunting help?
Something not really pushed in this thread, at least I didnt catch it, is they have to like to run bobcats. Being game as hell isnt good enough. I was always told my grandpa could catch bobcats with collies. I thought I could do the same. Just get some good game hounds, keep em in the woods, and nat...

Re: Central TX cat hunting
In the 90s to 100 right now. Its 4:30 am, finishing my coffee and heading out. Bout a three hour window to hunt until we get some cool fronts coming in, then its back to nights during deer season.

Re: call first
Padnah, if you got dogs that push calling is a waste of time. Once in a while, under perfect conditions, coon dawgs can push. I hunt where there are a TON of bobcats. A coon is a caught muther. They cant do it to a cat. Have called/dragged them too many times to a cat crossing in front of me. Did it...

Re: Multiple species hound
I'm not sure which is more embarrasing. Having your coondog quit the tree and come back to you and your buddy halfway to him through the briars or dumping 6 coyote hounds after the siren locate and they come running back to the truck and half of them try and load up.

New Mexico Natl Forest
I am planning a hunt with my dad who is 67. Either Gila or Santa Fe forest. Just a glorified dog walk with he and I and my two potlickers. Can anyone recommend any cabins that are within range of a fair shot at a cat track? If it were just me I would wander around like an idiot and sleep wherever, b...

Re: Hunt on the O'Connor Ranch
I remember going to school here in Smithville with scratches all over my face and arms. Eyelids all scratched up. My teachers would ask what had happened and I would try to explain that the dogs happened to catch one in the briars. The school nurse was a niece to Doug Swearingen and completely under...
