Re: Turning a Track Around

Re: Turning a Track Around
Lawdawgharris, one of the hunters who preferred to decide when to turn his hound around on a track owned one of the best bobcat catching dogs at that time. Yes Dewey is sure correct if one lets one dog start the track much better chance of getting the right end of track in beginning. I have also fou...

Re: Turning a Track Around
Most of the dogs I have owned have been good about turning a track around. In my experience some families of dogs have the ability to get the correct end of a track & others just don/t. Some hunters have told me they do not want dogs that will turn a track the hunter will decide when to turn the...

Re: Extremely hard toe pad
Not sure of anything at this point. None of problem toes have ever turned black & blue, not shown any sign of swelling, just got very hard pads to point where they cracked open. At this time the Equine 3 rubbed in the pads twice a day has shown improvement. The dog will be 5 in August. , Thanks ...

Re: Extremely hard toe pad
An update to any who are interested has not gone as well as I hoped. After removing that toe, problem moved into a couple toes. I had planed to revisit vet, stopped on my way at a feed store, lady who runs the place happen to be three months away from being a graduated vet. She told me that was comm...

Re: Trailing in the desert
For those interested there was only one dog barking on that bobcat I saw tiptoe between those two young dogs, he was barking very little, but when he barked the excitement in his voice lead me to conclude that bob was not that far ahead. When one hunts bobcat all summer long in the dry conditions we...

Re: Trailing in the desert
Greetings Muleman, I have found swing more likely then not makes catching bobcat more difficult. Returning to the same spot can for sure can be a determent to catching at times, after about the second time, time to do a little correction. Dogs that learn to put the nose down & trail to get the c...

Re: Trailing in the desert
My five dogs were trailing a bobcat that I thought was just sneaking along in front of them. The three older dogs cross a small open space & entered brush patch. Thinking to my self that bobcat is not very far ahead of those dogs, about them two younger dogs entered that small open area, noses t...

Re: Kidney failure
Peg just curious why you think purified water is not a good idea? Years ago owned dog that developed kidney issues, vet ask if I used potable water at the kennel. I said yes, he stated better not to in his opinion. Puzzled me then & now. Al

Re: Bobcat/coyote
Yes running both bobs & yotes with the same pack can be done my early mentors both did so here on the Oregon Coast. There was a lot more people who were hound friendly then, running yotes requires a much larger area & don/t know anyone who has that much area to hunt now. I hunted with Tommy ...

Re: Scared dog
Each day before feeding fire a .22 shot. Careful not to fire real close to her, then pet & feed, works with most dogs. Al

Re: A Legend Passes
I have often heard this story told, you can be the judge if there is any truth to it. Del came to Oregon in the sixties to hunt With a Mr. Glen Dexter who owned a daughter off Finley River Chief. Del was so impressed with that Chief female he wanted to buy her from Dexter. Dexter would not sale that...
