Re: How many dogs

Perk, don/t take this wrong, honest question. Do a majority of dogs you raise have the ability have the track style to catch most of the hard running cats they jump? Al

Re: Chain training (continued)

To my knowledge have never had one of my dogs caught in a snare. Have had a few caught in # 3 steel traps & seen dogs owned by others caught in traps. Some dogs will eat u up, only way to get them out was to throw a coat over the mouth area, others were released by a little talking to settle the...

Extremely hard toe pad

Rainy weather good day for this. Only have one dog can hunt, this fall noticed he had a extreme hard pad on a big toe on a rear foot. After trying numerous solutions to soften that toe pad with negative results, took him to my vet. I should not have been surprised, when vet told me without taking a ...

Re: Chain training (continued)

David I sure never meant to belittle you in any way, meet you once & actually liked you. Our late friend Wendell Smith was the last person I knew that lost a good dog to a snare. Wendell stated he was walking right near that dog when it got in that snare, had another hunter with him, both tried ...

Re: A Bobcat Guide’s Bay dogs.

There are good reasons to have dogs chain broke, but can tell you for sure chain broke dogs have choked to death in a short time when caught in a snare that was not spring loaded. Some just panic and pull the snare tighter. Sure not trying to sell anyone short on their knowledge. Al

Re: A Bobcat Guide’s Bay dogs.

I have seen bobcats being held at bay more than one time when the cat just sit like it was unconcerned. One that always sticks out in my mine was a bob lying on top of a bush about three foot high acting like it never had anything to worry about. Two dogs were standing back about 10 feet baying at t...

Re: A Legend Passes

Del Cameron passed away a couple days ago at home with family. Since he is a part of our history and I'm sure some on here have crossed paths with him I thought it appropriate to inform the group. One of his grandsons has been joining me the last few years chasing lions & bobcats and clearly ha...

Re: Suggestions for a hunting/ranch/kids dog

About 40 yrs ago, I decided to start a livestock and hardware supply and believe me when I say I received an in-depth education in dog and horse games. In the middle 80s through the middle 90s competion coon hunting was at a fever pitch. People hunted every week night and competition hunted all wee...

Re: Coon Hunting

I use those little flashing lights that attach to the collar.. they are a good help and do not cost a lot.. I also have a used radio tracking system- ATS the has one working collar that I could part with that if that would help you-- I sure understand the $$$ part you are talking about.. the ATS ha...

Re: Coon Hunting

I am just now getting into the sport of coon hunting and as a 15 year old that plays sport I don’t have time for a job just yet but so I can’t afford a tracking collar for my dog. Does anyone know of any other way I could get my dog out hunting without one? Try to find some one with a tracking syst...

Re: Suggestions for a hunting/ranch/kids dog

David, went back and read Dewey/s post again. Still believe it was good post, except the part about the attention deficient kid. No one is perfect. Thought you would have thicker skin. David I have hunted with a couple quarter curs that I really liked. Sorry I offended you so, was not my intention. ...

Re: Suggestions for a hunting/ranch/kids dog

Merry Christmas David. Sure you fired up, good for the heart. Actually I liked Dewey/s post comparing curs to hounds, much better than yours. However, think leopards are now considered hounds. I would bet if one knew the linage behind those great curs you speak of there is a hound in the woodpile. Al

Re: Suggestions for a hunting/ranch/kids dog

Cordell, this is a description of a coon hunt with two good hounds and a cur dog. Cast all three and the hounds get in the dark and stay there until a good track is found. The cur will leave with them but will be back shortly. When the hounds have the track up and running, the cur will recognize by...
