Re: Getting bored
Thanks for posting, Perk! Makes me want to load’em up and get in the woods!! They were talking to that ol fox!! Sounds a lot like a good cat race here when they’re really putting it on an ol cat .

Re: What is the difference between hunting bob cat lynx and or mountain loin
My point to that story was that cat knew exactly what she was doing and had probably done it several times. She was leaving a minimum amount of scent and knew how to do it.She never panicked, just went about her intent to throw the dogs off . Thanks for sharing that bludaw...

Re: What is the difference between hunting bob cat lynx and or mountain loin
Robby,i think in most situations like that it is because the cat has ran out of options. He has tried everything he could but the dogs are still right on him and he is done. He has ran up and down paralell to the road until he has no gas left and gives it one last effort wher...

Re: What is the difference between hunting bob cat lynx and or mountain loin
On the other end of the spectrum i have seen cats hit the road with the staggers 10-4 Mark. Agree on everything you said but makes me wonder how smart the cat is that hits the road with the staggers. If he has the staggers he's already in trouble. A smart cat better not let h...

Re: What is the difference between hunting bob cat lynx and or mountain loin
dhostetler,I use to wonder about that to so i've went back and measured the distance from the point the cat entered the road to the spot the dogs exited the road on his trail . Using my trucks odometer i've found some that went a half mile and i know they'll go further but since i didn't measure th...

Re: Running Dog Men??
Merlo, you got me on that question! Can't answer it because I've never crossed that bridge! Bet it would be nice just dwelling in that moment when you knew there wasn't anything out there any better than what you already had. I'd probably get bored and quit after a while because that's part of my ch...

Re: Running Dog Men??
Sorry to ramble so much, sometimes I feel like I'm better at pointing out what's wrong with my hounds than what's right with them. Guess that's one reason I give most away instead of selling them.
Scrubrunner, I like a man that dwells on the faults of his dogs rather than praise the good poi...

Re: Running Dog Men??
Perk, just took a look at your dogs. Really look good! I always favored them old lemon spotted dogs as in picture number 1. I've had a few good ones in the past.

Re: Running Dog Men??
Scrubrunner, they all have at least 1/2 running walker in them and that can run up to 5/8 to3/4 to full blooded running walker. And yes most are walker x treeing walker but have also crossed with blue tick and beagle. The black saddle back dog in picture 1 & 2 is 1/8 beagle x 7/8 running walker.

Perk, you haven't posted any pictures of your hounds yet. I'd sure like to see them. Thanks and good post. It was getting dull on here.

Running Dog Men??
South Texan: Each one of your dogs are excellently put together dogs, top line to the ground. I do notice that the tails are short. I have seen dogs that kept their tails so injured on heavy brush that the tails had to be partially removed. I am guessing that you shorten the tails at a few days old...

Running Dog Men??
Here are some of my running dog crosses I use on cat here in south Texas. The third picture is of a straight running walker gyp I used on cat until she was 2 years old. At that time I introduced her to blood trailing. She got so good at it that I retired her from cat hunting and used her strictly fo...

Re: crossing with running dogs
Mule Man you ask if anyone from the southeast has ever bred, raised, and trained a dog that would start, trail, jump and run a cat better than anything else in the pack. I don't care where your from. If you can't do this, I wouldn't consider my self a dog trainer. Anyone can go buy ( or be given) do...
