Re: 44 mag for black bear
I've seen a few pissed off bears with a .44 that have a little kick left in em to tear some shit up before they expire unless shot in the dome. As for a rifle I own a .450 marlin, might be a little on the heavy side, but shot two bears with it this fall and it really knocks their dick in the dirt.

Re: Train your own.
Very true, nothings more rewarding then raising a pack of hounds that do the job for you and catch game. I can understand falling on hard times and having to buy a finished hound, just wont see me doing that!! Ill stick it out with what i have till i get something i want. It actually bugs me when ...

Re: how old to start on bear
I try and start my dogs out on a drag around 10weeks old if they are interested in trailing and will turn them in behind in a bear race at about 5months of age. If the dog want to hunt I let it hunt. I will normally run them at 5 months during training season, not kill season. because we typically ...

Sounds good I'll try it. I've wondered about trying that, I know the electrolytes are good for them.

Re: Keeping a dog hydrated in the winter
Jordan Run, I havent had any problems with adding water to a dogs food, been doing it for a long time now. I had a dog that liked to eat and im not sure he even chewed his food. One day in the summer he ate all his food in the matter of seconds and decided to drink a lot of water. He ended up ...

Keeping a dog hydrated in the winter
I have an older dog that I have a hard time keeping hydrated when running him hard in the winter months. he will not eat even touch his food if its wet, so adding water to his food before giving it to him doesnt work. I use a heated water dish, but the dog still doesnt care to drink. He isnt that ...

very poor condtions, damn weather...
spite the poor weather here in michigan I got a couple good runs in this week. older dog and pup did good cold trailing, jumping cats two different days. Ran a 20lber for about 4hrs putting it across the road twice. And treed a 30lber, which bailed on me when I got in there and gave to dogs a slip ...

Re: Advice needed please
Like shawn said, walk dog on a lead on the cat track till you jump it an turn her loose! being an older dog you should be able to tell with just a few walk ups if shes going to work or not. If she does like running cats after theyre jumped and having run a couple hot tracks, let her try working a ...

Re: will this work
Tiz, I strategically place beaver carcasses where I like to bobcat hunt. and you do have to put them in a tree, because the coyotes will make short work of it. I try to condition my cats to stay in areas that are little easier to retrieve the dogs from, but arent easy enough for every tom, dick, and ...

Re: Tracking Box Repair?
jordan,
I just ended up calling Quick Track and theyre just mailing me the parts, I guess its just a simple fix without the need of doing any tuning to the box. So I'll be all ready come the first!
