I would like to know who's tried them? Good or bad.
Thanks

Hortemiller Blueticks??
Looking for feedback on these dogs from guys who have hunted them. Good and bad you might have experienced. Looking for honest opinions so feel free to PM me with your replies. Comments on their nose, drive, speed, grit. Trashy or fairly straight? Anything you could give me I'd appreciate. Bear and ...

Re: Looking for an Idaho resident to talk to.
I'm sorry I did not clarify in the original post what we were planning to hunt. Priority would be a OTC gun elk tag for my wife. We're just in the early planning stages, trying to figure out Idaho rules, zones, season dates, towns and lodging, etc. I have been reading the fish and game website but ...

Looking for an Idaho resident to talk to.
My wife and I are planning our first "out west" trip for the fall of 2015. We plan on buying an OTC tag and hunting in the state of Idaho. That's about all we've got planned for now. If anyone here is willing to answer a few questions that's from Idaho or has past experience there please feel free ...

Re: Breaking bear dogs off coon
Ha Ha Ha Ha. If I didn't already have a great coon dog I'd consider running her myself but bear is what she was bred for and she does awesome on them. In WI there is way more coon then bear where we hunt so if you're cold trailing off a bait your bound to have coon scent dang near everytime. Like I ...

Breaking bear dogs off coon
Lets hear some of your ways that you guys break your bear dogs off of coon. I'll start with a short story. I've got a 3.5 year old female plott that I started cold trailing last season. She's fast on a hot bear and tight on a tree. Last season she jumped a dozen or so bear starting her on baits for ...

Wisconsin Training Season Opener
Training season opens this Tuesday, July 1st. Curious how many fellow houndsmen will be hitting the woods this week? Weather looks as good as it can get for July, mid 70's for highs and dipping down into the low to mid 50's for Tuesday through Thursday.

Re: coon hunting handguns
I have an old beater .22 rifle that has shot many many coon. Last year I purchased a Ruger SR22 pistol. That's all I took with me. The leaves are off here in the fall so a coon should be easy to spot unless you're in a big ole hemlock. I don't think anyone can deny that a coon 30 feet up is probably ...

Re: Wisconsin bears?
As I read this post Gary I recognized your name. Two years ago in Indiana I picked up a female puppy out of a litter of yours at Autumn Oaks. I named her Autumn. She's almost two and I have only hunted her strictly on bear. I want to pass along that I'm very happy with her and her style of chase ...

Re: What's the biggest litter you have seen ?
I had my first litter in May. Redbone/Redticked English Cross 15 pups. One was still born, and nature took its course on 6 more. Ended up with 8 that are all healthy now. Unless you're going to bottle feed a bunch of them with a litter that big some are bound to not make it.

Re: bear hounds and private land??
Personally I try to stay far enough in the Chequamegon National Forest as I can. At times you may run a bear closer to the perimeter and either I try to get permission for adjacent properties or try to have a cut off access road to stop the hounds before they get onto private land. It sucks having ...

Re: What now?
Live trap a coon. Let her work the cage a bit just before dark. Read her actions, if she's excited, pawing at the ground, biting at the cage. Just at dark let the coon go into a field far enough from some trees so she'll have to track it a ways. Mark the spot where you let it go, and don't leave the ...

Re: WISCONSIN BEAR HUNTERS
I wish the DNR could come to and agreement in writting on this issue. I have in a signed letter stating that there is no law for or against using a dog to track either bear or deer. Pressuming it is illegal then, unless given special permission from the DNR. That permission only being given on a ...

Re: Bluetick breeding in WI
Thanks. I've heard pretty highly of what he breeds. I'll have to call him and see what the availability of a pup is.
