Re: NM bear with hounds

I have not hunted that part of NM., but one of the most effective ways for my to hunt bears out here is to rig dogs. I also free cast them quite a bit. As far as snakes you can pretty much plan on them anywhere out west during the warm months.

Good luck.

Re: Are you ready?

Thanks everyone, I am not a very good cameraman or video editor but I enjoy throwing things together once in a while. Hydro I don't know why the link isn't working for you. The video is posted on my Facebook page.

Are you ready?

Hope everyone is getting excited for this upcoming bear season. We have been cutting bear tracks while lion hunting this last month! Here is a little video, nothing fancy but great memories made with new and old friends. https://youtu.be/62E2Z47b094

Hunting utah with cold nosed outfitters.JPG
Here is one of our boxes. It has a fan inside for hot days and you can put the sliders in for cold days. Has a crossover storage bin, cooler divider and the back has an insert to close it up for traveling.

jaredpuckett,
Cool setup.

Re: how old to start on bear

I start taking my pups with me at about 10-12 weeks for short rides in the dog box, to get them acclimated to being on the road and being close quarters with other dogs. I try and expose them to a lot of outside and strange dogs also. When they are 4-6 months they get a tracking collar put on for ...

Re: Snow Level in Utah

Krk,

I haven’t been down to the LaSal’s for a little while, so I am not sure the snow levels. Around central UT everything has been burning off pretty quick, prior to today’s storms. There is still snow in the higher elevations and some patchy snow on the north slopes. I have cut a couple bear ...

Re: Garmin astro 320

ozhound,

It all depends on what you type of battery you have. Every battery has two ratings which are volts and amp-hours (AH). The Ah rating may also be given as milliamp-hours (mAh), which are one-thousandth of an amp-hour. The higher a battery's amp hour rating is, the longer the battery's run ...

Re: Garmin astro 320

The 320’s will eat regular alkaline batteries fast, but if you switch to NIMH rechargeable battery you will get a lot more life from your batteries. I use Rayovac platinum AA NIMH batteries and can get a full day of use from a set. You need to change the “battery type on your 320 when using ...

Re: This is what works for me.

Chaser,

There are a lot of reasons a young dog doesn’t tree, from a lot of commotion at the tree to arriving late enough that it didn’t see the game climb. I want a dog to tree because it knows there is game up there and not just be a cheerleader. Everyone has their own timeline in which they ...

Re: This is what works for me.

Thanks everyone for the complements and PM’s. When I shot this clip it was not with the intention to say “hey look at what I can do” it is to shed some light on what myself and others expect from our dogs.

Unreal_tk,
I do try and shape my dogs when it comes to locating and treeing. I myself do not ...
