Re: Opinions

Great thread. Thanks to all who chimed in.
Does everyone good to question our opinions that we have formed over the years. I guess that's how you teach old dogs new tricks.

Re: Wolf Trapping

The MB 750 will give you more traps for your dollar. Don't overlook the Bridger Brawn, it has a bigger jaw and that gives you a slight advantage when trapping in areas that get frequent snows. The Dan Lay trap is a great trap for snow and ice ( looks like it has a life kit) It has the best springs I...

Re: What caliber pistol

I like the 22 mag. I have a double action revolver and a little lever action rifle that I use. Some states require a center fire so check before using the rimfire. I like the lung shot, very quick. The big calibers are good if you don't tie dogs back but you need to soak your clothes in cold water a...

Re: Question for pegleg

Good stuff Nathan, enjoyed the reading. I used to take my wifes Border with the hounds. She could trail very well but would sit silent and just stare a hole in the cat when treed. My wife had a queensland heeler when I met her. I used to take her with me on a muskrat trapline. As soon as she figured...

Re: Fabricators.

Most cross country skis are rated to a persons weight, mine are rated at 250 lbs so I can carry a pack. I think you would end up breaking them.

Thomas, that a nice job. Plenty of clearance there. RS

Re: Working on another folder design

I didn't start out to build any knives, just fix a few old leather tools in the shop. With a little help from guys like Doug & Bruce it kinda got fun. RS

Re: Working on another folder design

Blue. By better I mean it's tuned better. The spring on the lock is nice and it opens smooth and locks real crisp. I'll get a picture of it and what ever sheath I come up with when I get it back.

Re: Working on another folder design

Thanks guys Nathan, There's a way they stabilize woods that are real pretty but not tough enough. Some get dye's added at the same time. It makes the wood as tough as the denser woods but adds expense. I wanted the lock release away from the back of my palm as that's the only place I ever use any fo...

Working on another folder design

I wanted a lock back with the lock release in a slightly different place. After lots of drawing and cutting cardboard I tried a prototype. It's pretty normal to have some tuning problems on a first try and this one was no different. It turned out good enough for a work knife so I stuck it in my back...
