Re: Scent drag

Sometimes you can train a hound that isn't interested in bottled scent on a domestic cat trail. Just make sure that you don't turn the hound loose while the cat is still in the tree, especially if it 's someone's pet, because that cat is going to stay up that tree longer than it's owner will be plea...

Share your bed with a retired hound. Works for me!

Re: NKC Majestic Puppies

How'd a Walker X bloodhound produce a white housecat?!
Just curious about the color of the sire. I'm seeing two almost solid red pups? Do they have pink skin or black skin?

Re: Leaving a young dog over night

Never had an airedale, but I've had hounds that wouldn't come back when I wanted them to. Here's what I'd try: Next time the dog isn't coming back, leave a blanket or something with your scent on it and leave for only a couple hours. Go into town for gas and a cup of coffee, something like that. Cha...

Re: Serious Question!

I only ever had one hound that was any good on bobcats and I wasn't always able to keep up with him on the icy mountain ledges they usually ended up on, so by the time I got there, the cat was often gone, so I probably know less than I think I do. However, I did study meteorology when I was young an...

Re: First Aid Kits

I keep one first aid kit for both the dogs and me. It's got vet wrap, the long kind of ace bandage to wrap sprained ankles and wrists, a few acepromazine pills in case I have to pull quills or whatever reason, some aspirin, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, blue kote, an assortment of band aids, a swiss ar...

Re: The color of the dog and heat

In my experience, the thing that matters most is what kind of shape they're in. We don't have the big kitties here, but I used to run bear in the heat of the summer, and it's not just hot, it's humid here too. I've been known to get heat exhaustion myself. My dogs have all been red, mostly with dark...

Re: Reverting toward childhood

I've been known to chase coon in daylight. In my experience, the coon are out as long as the light is dim and the human population is sparse. Where I live, in the Catskill Park, the raccoon are out in the hollows all day long, except when the sun is direct overhead. We're shut down on everything in ...
