Re: Chain training (continued)

They was both very lucky. You brought me back GCLeps. But Since it’s my grumpy thread, I’m going to disagree with you in one thing. UNLUCKY to me would be conditions so bad that they would not allow even the best of bobcat dogs to get up under a bobcat. LUCKY to me would be conditions so good that ...

Re: Southeast

Also, send a PM to Perk on here. He knows every breeder and the pedigrees of every dog ever born for five generations; including Georgia dogs. His wife has to wake him up to get him to quit reciting pedigrees in his sleep. His little girls first words were “F1” “F2” “recessive” “dominant”. They were...

If you haven’t watched these, there are some Georgia names mentioned somewhere in this one or in part 2:

Re: A Legend Passes

I don’t know where you could find either one of the books. But I sure appreciate your words and we just do the best we can with imperfect tools like human language. But like you say, I have heard people a whole lot smarter and more aware than me say: for every physical, visible reality, there is an ...

Re: A Legend Passes

I think the magazine might still be around. Del quit writing the column when he was told he needed to tone down all the Jesus stuff.  . Ladies and Gentlemen: Del Cameron. Ben Lilly took some heat for his faith in Jesus also. And a lot of lions and bears were thankful when Ben refused to...

Re: A Legend Passes

Bear Hounder, Full Cry was a magazine that Del had a column in long before he put the book out. Sometimes his column was several pages long and this is a large magazine with small print. I told a lion hunting story in my book. After the story, I let people know how much that column had stuck with me...

I still remember something Del wrote in the eighties in Full Cry that had some of this same imagery.
We are lucky to have a sport that has so many parallels like this one. Very rich. We are so blessed. Thank you for sharing that.

Re: Chain training (continued)

It's devastating Al, it always makes me sad to hear of something like that. The circumstances sound awful. What, they couldnt get the snare loosened? You guys reading this need to get a snare and a conibear trap and a leg hold trap and practice with them. be able to open them in your sleep. I said I...

Re: Chain training (continued)

If she wasn’t fighting it at all Mark, I’m going to guess that is because she had been tied a lot. And if there was any chance at all of her surviving that snare, and I beleive there is a chance of that, it would have been because this was not the first time she was ever restrained. Far from it. Why...

Re: Chain training (continued)

I’m not at all upset mark. I’m grumpy. I’m a grumpy old man Started this thread out grumpy. I was hoping people would see that at the beginning of this thread. I probably should take a timeout and see if I ever get not grumpy again. I have never lost a dog to a snare or a trap or a car or wolf. Hunt...

Re: Chain training (continued)

Ok cancel the barn cat and replace it with a bobcat or lion Ok you got me mark. Uncle. Folks, don’t waist your time with chain training a kenneled dog. If they are any game driven they will die young any way. So keep a whole bunch of them. Or else buy two good ones from lawdawgharris. Because evide...

Re: Chain training (continued)

ie a barn cat walks by the dog lot, very few dogs i have owned would sit at the end of the chain and bark as they watch the cat stroll by. The clay dogs barely even notice a barn cat let alone pull on a chain or bark. Maybe they are not game driven. Or not smart enough to know that is a cat and they...

Chain training (continued)

...I’ve had 2 dogs snared around the neck over the years while hog hunting. They weren't hurt because they were smart enough not to tighten it down and just sat and barked. For any new to this sport and who may keep your dogs in a kennel, this is why you MUST tie your dogs out and get them used to ...
