Re: How many dogs

I agree with what you say about one dog must be able to do it all. Except that I have never had a single dog that gave me all I needed in every department. The only way I have ever had a top cold tracker and a top catch dog and top locator was to have two dogs. I know that one dog is out there somew...

Re: How many dogs

There is a saying that came from the northeast snow bobcat hunters. “One dog is not enough; two is too many”. But if it’s me in snow and it’s the right two dogs; Two is amazing and all I would ever want or need. Except that dogs die. Then you only have one or none. And that is the tremendous problem...

Re: A Bobcat Guide’s Bay dogs.

Never had a dog neck snared, but all the dogs I chained out settled Down in about 5 min. Believe they would do the same in neck snare. Might chew their leg in leg snare. (Edited) Even before snares were so popular, I would break all my dogs to chain because then they are not automatically pulling m...

Re: A Bobcat Guide’s Bay dogs.

I've had 2 dogs snared around the neck over the years while hog hunting. They weren't hurt because they were smart enough not to tighten it down and just sat and barked. For any new to this sport and who may keep your dogs in a kennel, this is why you MUST tie your dogs out and get them used to bei...

Re: A Bobcat Guide’s Bay dogs.

... I guess because it was kinda portrayed like the dogs were responsible for him being there. Good eye guys, I told y'all I've been wrong before. This makes twice now lol. I guess it kinda was. But I am sure he just used it to let his potential clients know what kind of beautiful cats we got walki...

Re: A Bobcat Guide’s Bay dogs.

Obviously I'm not a cat hunter but I'm gonna tell ya what I see. It looks to me like the dogs are baying from the side of the thicker woods. The side of the cat opposite the dogs looks a lot more open. I would bet that they caught up before he could cross the more open real estate. He knows if he h...

Re: A Bobcat Guide’s Bay dogs.

This video fascinates me. I feel like I need more information... Any insights are welcome. I need some more detectives on this case... Unless there is something about this that can’t be seen... It amazes me. I hear other dogs somewhere (truck?) Man, you guys. Thank you. I was really stuck on this. ...

This video fascinates me. I feel like I need more information. The cat looks alert and in good shape. I don’t think I can remember ever seeing a cat GIVEN THIS MUCH SPACE and being held completely stationary with two dogs and without any backing. It’s like good sheep dogs, holding steady with their ...

Re: A Legend Passes

Thank you, Scott. It was thoughtful of you to let us know. Del had a column in full cry for years. That is how folks like me knew of him back in the seventies. At one point, he called the column “Christian Houndsmen”. I wrote to him and he always answered and tried to be helpful. Even back then, I w...

Re: Bobcat/coyote

There are sight hound enthusiasts that would feel like they died and went to heaven if they could live where you live, and run coyotes and hare with sight hounds. And with them, you don’t need a grid of roads because it is bedlam for a couple minutes and either they caught him or they didn’t. And if...

Re: Bobcat/coyote

They usually piss on coyote tracks run them out 300 yards full open and come back. If I'm not in the snow I know it's a cat or lion won't touch a bear or coon track. It eastern Oregon mosty desert. For 1 cat track it's around 50 coyote. Find something that is fun to do and that you enjoy. If that i...

Re: Bobcat/coyote

You live in one of the best bobcat hunting states in the nation. If you only hunt snow, there are many snow hunters in the upper Midwest who run both coyote and bobcat with the same dogs. And they are able to catch some of both. I don’t know how much track switching happens because I have never done...
