Re: Houndspeak - say what?

Well in practice a cold track is a track of any age or condition or species that a hound is struggling to scent. It might range from 12 hours to three days or longer. There's alot of debate to be had over cold tracks. But for me I simplify it by judging my hounds behavior. If only one or two of my b...

Re: Houndspeak - say what?

For the most part it's not any different term then other dog groups with those exceptions that are only used for hounds or their behaviors. A hound is it's genetics. So it's simpler to show it's parents at what is supposed to represent the end of a successful hunt. However i'd rather see a half hour...

Re: Inconspicuous hunting rig ideas?

Horse trailer. Or any suv with a divider or two in the cab. Just pray you don't have any trashy pups it can get ripe after a few skunks. I don't hunt much from a vehicle but here a white truck with a white box works good unless they get close. I have been mistaken for border patrol or Leo often. I d...

Re: Just something I find amusing

I was hunting years ago and it got hot so we took a break next to a dirt tank. My younger brother was flipping little rock's in the water and this old hound got worked up. Now this dog was old a didn't get excited about anything. But pretty quick he's in the water rooting around and blowing bubbles ...

Re: Short Rough Pack Trip

It's true anywhere I've been the last several years. Some of these rangers will fine you for removing brush from trails. And then you hear the complaints about how difficult it is for fire crew's to navigate. I suppose it's just the way things will be until another change comes along. It seems these...

Re: Cold nose ? Fact or fiction

I suppose if you have had a really cold natural hound it's rare to replicate it. But at some point you don't need any colder then what you have. Thinking on this I can honestly say there are men who have followed hounds along time that have made the decision to move towards a more medium type nose. ...

Re: Cold nose ? Fact or fiction

I hunt with hounds and use kelpies or heelers for cattle. Now my hounds are medium to high drive but not insane. Some of the cowdogs are insanely driven to do whatever your doing and will run track or trail. But they also can't scent everything the hounds can. They get frusterated and shitty about i...

Re: PRICING A HOUND ?

Well maybe someone is willing to but your hound. But the real question is why would you sell it? After the time put into it you actually get more then that out of the dog over the next few years. And no one that's in the sport for money alone is likely to end up with that type of hound in the first ...

Re: PRICING A HOUND ?

I am wondering at this point is a single do it all bobcat dog really worth the work? There's always variables. But I would have to say for anyone not making decent returns on fur or who has money to burn it probably isn't. Maybe I'm reading this whole thing wrong. And granted some areas have better ...

Re: PRICING A HOUND ?

Man took some time off to sell grade AAA hounds and come back to find the candy man being beaten and drug through the mud. I guess it's ok. Just leave the icecream guy alone it's to damn hot to be maiming him.
Anyone got a dog for sale??

Re: Cold nose ? Fact or fiction

Our desert bears can travel some impressive distances. They will stick right to food if water's nearby otherwise they travel between the two until the foods gone or they're pushed out. But when it comes to traveling to the next meal they aren't shy about a trip. I've known them to cross the desert f...

Re: Cold nose ? Fact or fiction

What you said about pulling your start dog at the first road seems to be a much more common thought process then I would have guessed. But it isn't something I've done and I always wonder what effect it has on the dog? Mine are never pulled off track. At most I might tie them in spot if they're over...
