Re: !!! The Ultimate Bobcat Dog: Part 2.0 !!!

Dan, the only thing I see that might work down here is Lep.- July. Trying to run a cat down and catch him on the ground in The Southeast with anything other than a running walker pack is like trying to stick a round peg in a square hole.

Re: How did you come to hunt the dogs you hunt?

I never did have any hog dogs or try to hog hunt, but I have caught hogs accidentally while hunting coons. I’m am curious as to why people that really like hog hunting don’t use English pointers or pointer crosses. As a kid my daddy was a bird hunter and had good dogs. They ran out and were never pe...

Staying dissatisfied keeps you from going backwards and eventually, OUT.

Re: How did you come to hunt the dogs you hunt?

I am not as lucky as some or I don’t know a good dog when I see one or some people think they have good dogs but don’t. The only thing I can saw is I have never had the kind of dogs I want. Am running some pretty good ones now and have in the past but not like I want.

Re: Bear leading dogs to porky pine

I kinda doubt that animals lead dogs to other animal trying to get them confused. My daddy always thought they did but I couldn’t come to believe that. I run a good bit in tha same places and probably run the same animal sometimes and after a while animals learn where the best place is to lose a dog...

David, doesn’t sound like a Goose comment. He must have a ghost writer somewhere.

Re: !!! The Ultimate Bobcat Dog: Part 2.0 !!!

It good to have ideas and try different things to make things easier or better, BUT the dog like the mouse trap has already been invented. The person who catches the most mice sets the trap more than most people. Go anywhere in the US of A and start looking for dogs and you will find them at a house...

Re: Has it always been this hard?

Chick, have a friend out west that hadn’t hunted much but decided he wanted to coon hunt. Bought a couple of red tick female pups from the Texas panhandle . Top side was Oney bred and I don’t remember the bottom. The pups complete background was coon dogs from way back. When they were of age, he sta...

Re: Has it always been this hard?

Perk, the statement I’m about to make is definitely not the product of any scientific study but of witnessing it with my own eyes with no jealousy involved. The best dogs I’ve ever hunted with(tree dog or running dog) came from average dogs around the community. I’ve hunted with some big name breede...

Re: Has it always been this hard?

Chick, the fun part in this game is trying. If you follow some of this advice you will be dead from old age before you have enough evidence on a dog to breed. And that is just one side of the breeding. I’ve found this site to be fun to follow and read but I wouldn’t chisel the info in stone. I’ve hu...

Re: Has it always been this hard?

Forget what Clyde came from, find you a female you like. Make the breeding, keep all the pups and go hunting.it might work and might not, regardless of what name is on a dogsbackground only a small percentage of the litter is going to turn out what you have in mind. Dog breeding is a crap shoot at bes...

Re: Help Identifying - Treeing (or Running?) WC?

When you breed a red tick coon hound to a large mountain feist a lot of the pups finish out to look like that. If you don’t know what you have it about impossible to figure it out. I’ve guessed on sever dogs to be such and such cross and be way off when the owner that knew set me streight. I’ve hunt...

Snake population

I’ve noticed the snake population in southeast Louisiana is down to a minimum. What happened? In the 70 thru the middle 90s the snake population was sky high, in my area mostly water snakes and cottonmouth. Very seldom see any now. I believe the gators are taking care of them in the water and the ho...

Re: Barking on chain

Al, I can’t see why the inlarged heart caused kennel barking. The dogs that I’ve had with abnormal problems or any sickness usually are extremely quiet in the kennel. Kennel barking I’m talking about is a dog barking excitingly at something that’s not there. Brain problem, there is a strain of cur d...

Re: Hearing problem

It doesn’t take much to improve the distance that a sound can be amplified. Climb on top of your dog box cup your hands behind your ears and see the difference. Put just a little forward push on the backside of the ear with each hand seems to open the ear canal a little.
