Re: International Bobcat Contest

Nice cats Pete dog! Yes I have had tough tom races too but on average females are tougher to catch than males in my country. One of my friends has been doing pretty good on bobcats with his dogs but got his ass handed to him twice by the same female. She survived the kill season so I am hoping to ti...

Re: International Bobcat Contest

During kill season I turn loose strictly on toms, once I get my tags filled I run anything, I prefer running females they put on a lot better race in my opinion.

Re: International Bobcat Contest

Sounds like you had tracks switched on you several times, i wonder if that ever happens on those 24 hour old cold trail and catch tracks? Since I started hound hunting in 2002 we have never had such good conditions the whole month of December. Every day was good except several days of -20. So yes s...

Re: International Bobcat Contest

And I guess I'm in Mark's situation too. The picture is not sideways on my phone, so I don't know how it ends up sideways here.

Re: International Bobcat Contest

This is one of the only cats I treed so far that I could actually take a picture. My cats mostly tree in old growth trees where you need binoculars to find. Yes my photo taking abilities are also very much to be desired. Our kill season closed yesterday. I got my limit of four, it was kind of a bitt...

Re: Walker Dogs

Following are the common widely held views: Walkers are known to be hot nosed & false treerers. Blueticks are known to be slow track straddling track pounders. Plotts are known to be dog aggressive. I have and am running all 3 breeds and the above is not an accurate description of any of them, h...

Re: International Bobcat Contest

Roscoe is 13.5 months old an outstanding dog did outstanding on that race. At 13.5 months he is the closest I have seen yet in a hound that is exceptional on all species. He is a Walker Loose Bruce / Lipper. Found this big tom track with some snow in it. Was a tough cold trail. Temperature in the si...

Re: lions fighting hounds at the tree.

I have heard that theory batted around frequently that wolves are making lions meaner, I just don't think that is the case. Having witnessed several lion vs pack hound fights the lion always lost. I just don't think a lion fighting a pack of wolves would survive. Yes one on one a lion is deadly but ...

Re: Big game trials

I have rigged bears up to a half mile away and have not rigged bears I seen cross the road in front of me with the same hounds. Rigging is a complicated science and to be able to get it contained into a field trial arena I think would be pretty hard, though having the competition on flat ground a pe...

Re: cold trailing in cool temps

I didn't mean to side track this post, I guess I misunderstood the original post. I thought the problem was the dog was sight trailing and not actually smelling the track, my apologies. My idea of a solution was on trying to give ideas on how to get the dog to smell the track hole to hole or keep hi...

Re: cold trailing in cool temps

This is Rocket at 3.5 months trailing a lion up a road bank on the top there was bare ground so he lost it and came back. He stuck his nose in every track going up the bank. The way I got him started was holding his nose into a track until he had no choice but to inhale the scent. This was a hot tra...

Re: cold trailing in cool temps

J.T. When I have pups when I have a snow track I usually get the pups out first and grab them by there head and shove there nose into the track before any other dogs have a chance to ruin it. A pup will in very short order learn to stick its nose into the track. It is fine if dogs sight trail a ways...

Re: lions fighting hounds at the tree.

Chris, I never seen anything like what you described, were you coming in above it? I have noticed coming into a tree down a steep hillside above a lion they are a lot more nervous and apt to jump. I once treed a lion that was extremely pissed in the tree slapping the side of the tree and biting off ...
