Re: International Bobcat Contest

David I usually get my limit of 4, that is the smallest cat I ever shot so odds are pretty high I will exceed it. Plus it's to late I already skinned it with out getting a certified weight. We don't have any snow yet in our best cat country I am hunting higher country in the Lynx/ bobcat transition ...

Re: cold trailing in cool temps

That should be excellent cold trailing conditions. Your dog probably just needs to learn how to snow hunt. You said he was sight trailing? He didn't stick his nose into the track? Conditions like you described should hold plenty of scent but dogs have to stick there nose into the track to smell it. ...

Re: International Bobcat Contest

Yesterday the idea was to have a quick lion race to get my dogs warmed up and it turned into an all day ordeal of rolling my sled and a 2 mile brutal hike to the tree. Found a nice tom track this morning they got it jumped shortly and it put on a good run, I thought wow what a race for a tom. They t...

Re: Thoughts on pricing

Most high dollar cat dogs are sold by a hunters reputation. Your dog owned by someone better known in the cat hunting world may bring over $5,000.00, otherwise the only way most people will pay big bucks is seeing the dog in action. Are you offering a trial on the dog? Trialing a dog can be can have...

Re: International Bobcat Contest

Duane Bobcat and lions are predators and hunt to eat and harvesting one with 4" of fat doesn't seem like the man was telling the truth? I think about the athleticism of all cat species required for survival? [/quote] Mike, The fact that my trapper friend always seems to find these big lion tom ...

Re: International Bobcat Contest

Mark was that 43 pounder a larger frame bobcat or just obese? A friend of mine a trapper said his biggest bobcat weighed 42 lb but wasn't really that big just had 4" of fat. I still wonder if he was stretching the 4"

Re: Wolf's in the area you hunt lynx?

Last winter I had a friend with a lion tag and we had a nice overnight tom track going into a several square mile section. There was also a pack of wolves in the area. I spent a couple hours trying to sort everything out and I could not come up with the confidence that wolves weren't in the same are...

Re: Wolf's in the area you hunt lynx?

Most of my hunting is done in wolf country. I have had one dog killed by wolves. Other than that I have had several times wolves close to my dogs without issues. During snow hunting I do not turn out where I know wolves are I have passed up numerous tracks because of wolves in the area. On bare grou...

Re: What is the difference between hunting bob cat lynx and or mountain loin

Or when you see one cross the road and dogs dont open until they are off the road 50 yards or so. I dont know but i have thought about it a lot over time. I have noticed too on road crossings how dogs shut up till they are across. I wonder if that doesn't come from on a good track the dogs are kind...

Re: What is the difference between hunting bob cat lynx and or mountain loin

Mark, I don't really know the answer to that as a lot of my cold trails are probably more like 2 to 5 minute stretches of no loses. In my country a cold trail that goes 30 minutes with out a lose will most likely be jumped pretty soon. I can't ever recall a 5 minute cold trail lose going directly to...

Re: International Bobcat Contest

On your state competition how big are the ones that win? Our kill season lasts only 3 weeks with a limit of 4 per person. During good conditions I hunt for several days at a time with little sleep I keep a scale in the truck and weigh and skin them immediately. My biggest one last year was 29.5 lb. ...

Where or how does a guy find a certified scale? Googling I find only mention of DOT truck scales.
