This is an old thread but like Uphill and Dan said it right big game kemmers are far and few between. The guy that said kemmers won't take the ivory like a bmc ,never saw my curs on a bear or hog.If they back up or run they get shot!!!!!Uphill,Bob,Bruce,Jeff and Allen can tell you about the grit in m...

Re: Cur for bear

I only want to catch bear, not listen to dogs barking!!!!!If all you want is to hear is a race it does not matter what type of hound you have.If you want to catch it really matters!!!I have glassed bears in a prickly pear patch eating pears and heard the hounds coming and the bears left when they hea...

Re: curs on bobcats

Most kemmer's won't take that kind of running, there are strains within the breed that can handle long bear races.I have had many that would stay all day long--and some nites!!!!Just as there are better tree dogs in the walker breed there are better curs in the breed! Most of the Striker bred dogs are...

Re: Bloodlines for speed

In your country you should be able to find some Trigg or July blood to put a lot of speed in your dogs? The grittiest fast blood is the hudspeth dogs but I don't know where to get anymore?I have seen them strech a yote fast and kill a lion on the ground.

Re: sight hounds

If you look at the country in Cowboy's pics it is big wide open country. The country in Tn is a lot thicker for the most part. What may work there will never work out here, there are no lurchers or whippets that can catch a yote in the west, they just don't have that top speed.A lot of stags get out run...

Re: gritty hounds

Many dogs are gritty in company!!!Lots of cheerleaders are tough when a tough dogs get in there! To judge the grit or sand in your dog try him alone on a yote or a big boar hog,you will find out who is a bay dog and who is gritty .If you watch most hog tapes most dogs are baying the hog till the catc...

As are some Leps.I have hunted curs for over 25 years and have had silent, chop and bawl in them. What I like about curs over hounds is the ability to d...

Re: sight hounds

Talk to David Hise in N.Mex he has some buddies in Neb that have wolf Stags that have some running dog back in their bloodline and they will wind game when the loose it in the brush. They are fast and tough, most can handle or kill a yote alone.I would get a pup from that line, don't get a started or o...
