Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs
Dog performance advancement and improvement has a lot to do with the amount of game that he actually puts his mouth on. The more catches it is in on the better it gets and it improves quicker. A pack of a dozen dogs in one state that have an average age of say 5 yrs and they are catching 25 pieces o...

Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs
Al, I never had what I thought was a mentor in hunting. I had a few dog people I went to run dogs with that were always telling me how I should be doing things like them. After hunting with them a few times, I realized they were worse off than I was. I guess I too hard headed to have a mentor in dogs.

Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs
I see what you are talking about Al. I contribute false treeing with dogs that were messed with too much when they were pups. Like I said before I don’t use any type hype or early stimulation like hide drags caged coons, artificuial scents. I start a dog completely dumb of what I’m wanting him to do...

Al, I never had an experience with a dog having too much tree or maby I didn’t recognize it. How did you go about taking some out without taking all out.

Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs
Reds sire and dam were good bear and cat dogs( mountain lion- bob cat) but he never had a chance to show me he could be also. We don’t have any bear where I hunt and very few bob cat. We had a small hurricane come through here and blew a tree limb down on the cable run I had him tied out on. Broke t...

Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs
North Georgia, I know in squirrel dogs when they first start hunting, they will run or tree most anything. After a while usually the 2nd or 3rd season they settle down to just squirrel of coon. I guess they figure out that is all you are going to put out on um and they stopp messing with anything el...

Anyway the man I was hunting with sent me a male redtick to see if he would do good on coon. I started all my tree dogs solo. Don’...

Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs
Beebout,I’ve heard other people talk about a dog that started good and petered out as time went on.I’ve have never seen that and I’ve started a lot of different kind of dogs. The dogs that started early or on time finished out to be good dogs for me.

Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs
The only way I think you could tell natural from taught is live out where you could let pups run out and see who starts on their own. The one thing that sets dogs apart is desire to hunt. If he doesn’t show a desire to hunt pretty quick,I’ll I don’t keep it very long.

Re: Deer Hunting With Hounds
Deer hunting with dogs just finished up here in Southeast Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi. Had some good hunting, killed a lot of good bucks and had a lot of fun. Now I will just start running dogs about twice a week till next deer season.

Re: Ozark Cat Hunting
Bobcat population has more to do with your success than anything.South Tx and Florida seems to have the most catch rate. The people I knew from Arkansas hunted as much or more out of state. I’ve hunted with some very respected cat hunters for a week with no strike, that’s not very enjoyable and puts...

Re: Deer Hunting With Hounds
It’s still going pretty strong in southeast Louisiana. Deer season for bow is set up from sometime in Sept till sometime in Feb, I don’t know exactly how many days. We have around 5 weeks of dog season I think. There are a lot of dog deer hunters around here and neighboring states.

Re: Let’s talk.
Scrub, that’s about the only way I would want to rig. Most everyone I’ve hunted with keep them snapped, never seen any left up free run. Most all my dogs rig out of the box but I never stop. I’m gonna stop next time they rig hard and see if they run it or just barkin at scent. I think a lot of rig d...
