Re: Breeding emphasis
Lawdawg I was gonna answer but then everyone else in the world would have access to the secrets of breeding and I wouldn't be smartest man in the world LOL. Personally prefer breeding smart dogs that are bidable, and put more emphasis on the gyp personally, I will say I don't wanna breed to a Male d...

Hunt clubs or Landowners
Anyone in Virginia in a hunt club or a landowner looking to sell permit or take on new hunt club member? Looking to join a couple more clubs with intent to run grey fox and bobcats hounds. Looking for cutover and pine thickets, briars, the nastier and thicker the better I like it. Prefer in central ...

Re: Trailing in the desert
Never hunted in desert, or in lions, but have hunted around plenty of hounds on several species. I was always told, and it's been my anecdotal experience, that 'you cant/wont run a piece of game at a pace faster than they are moving.' Meaning if the game is walking the dogs will be moving it at a wa...

Re: Kidney failure
Scrubb, that’s a funny observation, I have far more often seen mine walk past puddles and such to get to my truck to drink fresh water from bucket, even when hot and tired they seem to pass up dirty water. Funny the things we notice our dogs do

Re: Kidney failure
I think those tags and that admire cant be good for them, even tho I'm guilty of using both before. Admire and its predecessors could kill a man or seriously harm if alot was inhaled and those cattle tags we used for ticks are dosed for 1000lb cattle. I try not to use anymore. Cant be good for a 50l...

Re: Kidney failure
Toolman, Running hard in that heat, lack of water, high protein feed, and diff medications probably all leading to that kidney failure, also illness such as lepto can damage the kidneys. Getting one dehydrated is bad on kidneys, i lose most of my hounds to it, but later in life than 4-5, some early ...

Re: What kind of fox hunting is this?
The vocab and way in which you speak turn me off to helping you at all. You sound like a man or woman who has no background in hunting, from the beginning calling people snobs, women antis, the ripping apart of animals, whongets to keep the carcass, etc. I still believe you are a troll. And urge oth...

Re: questions/thoughts about fox hunting and foxhounds
Was editing my last post as you replied, so there are a few changes.
Whippers Ends are riders who help keep dogs in line during hunt, also get out on edges and position themselves as lookouts for game. Have multiple jobs to the actual hunt. Often positions held by younger enthusiastic hunters.

Re: questions/thoughts about fox hunting and foxhounds
You don't see it offered by outfitter and guides because it's not a guided hunt where you pay to KILL an animal with a weapon. Yhe enjoyment to some in the chase, for some ot is the ride in the country side, for some ita the drinks afterwards. I've been invited to ride with a local club before at no...

Re: questions/thoughts about fox hunting and foxhounds
I'm not sure why anyone interested in preserving hunting with houds would characterize fox hunting as dogs 'ripping to pieces' a fox. Not a good look for hunters. Or the outcome of most races with formal packs. Also to call animal rights activist 'mainly women' is a misconception. Ton of male activi...
