It gets to about 95 around 9 o clock. Too hot. So we try to get dogs around that time normally

Re: African Game
The reason you see such a vast assortment of different types of dogs being used in hogs is because hogs are everywhere and can readily adapt to their terrain, terrain is the most contributing factor in the type of dog you need. I'd see if I could find someone around me hunting with hounds and see w...

Re: What do y'all consider a perfect number of dogs to bay and run a hog?
Thank y'all. I agree with Cajun on this too. @cajun. My dogs get to rough with any more than that. 1 finished dog and one well past started dog. And a puppy is all I try to run. And on the right hog I'll dump 2 curs to them if it gets too long. But there's only A handful of places I hunt they run li...

Re: Hot weather hunting...
Daylight to 10am is pretty ruff on a dog in the summer. Night hunting is harder. Though for sure. If it wasn't necessary I wouldn't do it. But I got to train pups. Can't sit em up all simmer and wait till they're a year and half old to really hunt em hard.

Re: Hot weather hunting...
All the above are very good. Had a dang good dog die of a heat stroke this summer. A young dog. Cause I wanted the hog so bad I turned out again and it costed me. Big time. Get in early and out early. Night hunt a lot more and day hunt less if u can.

BLUETICK X WALKER CROSS
Just curious has anyone tried this cross? And how did they turn out? I would think you could get some cold nosed fairly fast hounds from this! My buddy told me that he thought about trying it! How was their grit too? Thanks!

Re: Terrier hound cross
I wonder how good a jagdterrier and a walker would do on a hog? I don't want to have really gritty dogs, iw want mine to bay! But I definitely would be interested in trying this! Ive got 1 jagd . Just don't have a walker!
